For hops you can Just input down Just after the player leaves the ground that will cancel the full Jump into a short hop.
@TrulyAmiracle3 жыл бұрын
Yes thats one way to do them but that's basically the training wheels method to get the timing down and then ditch the extra down later on, I tried teaching a few friends and they found the added extra inputs makes it harder so I decided to skip it.

@TrulyAmiracle3 жыл бұрын
@@Free-JackWolff yes d~uf~d gives you a hyperhop, but its a crazy input for just a hop. Adding the extra d if you want to make sure you get a hop and not a jump in a specific situation is fine but using it as your default hop input is not ideal imo. Especially for characters that have an air special, if you happen to hit df instead of down you can get an unwanted special that gets you killed.
@TrulyAmiracle3 жыл бұрын
@@jorbu1423 i doubt it, especially the R3 part. How would a stick or hitbox user use that shortcut? Its doable if they have a “hop” button where jumping while holding it will always give you a hop, but I doubt we’ll get anything like that.

I will say, I've just casually played kof since I was 14 (21 now), due to no one really giving a good introduction crash course for the basics and essentials to play the game. I hopped of third strike to play 02um and it was a huge struggle for me since I assumed the two games were similar and tried to play it like SF so things I learned now were just from trial and error. I tried learning the game from the old Dandy J video which is a start and has value....but the video definitely shows its age and needs a update. That's why I like your video. You show concepts and idea, and verbally explain what they do, why you do it, pros & cons, when you do it, and alternatives to some situations. I also like for your examples your noting what's happening on screen and explain why and what is going on. So over all I think it's a good informal video for some to understand the basic fundamentals of the game and this is something I can definitely show my friends to get a grasp on what to do. Thank you for the video I do appreciate it.
@TrulyAmiracle3 жыл бұрын
Glad that you liked it. Yes one of the issues newcomers to KoF have is assuming it plays like SF coz they share some aspects, but get overwhelmed with the pace and how different it actually plays. i’ve been wanting to do this kind of guide since 2016 but always backed out of the idea (the original draft was almost 2 hours).

@@TrulyAmiracle well im glad you did make this, it must of took quite a lot of time and work and it shows. But now at least we all have some new source of information. I love the kof games but I noticed you really have to do some research for kof games just to get an understanding when there's not that many guides or videos just showing "hey this is how you play the game" instead of just combo videos (not that I don't like seeing some KOF shenanigans) and trial videos. So I really do mean it when I say thanks for making this video as for someone who enjoys this franchise.

4:26 In SF the charge time is not 2 full seconds. That's just a holdover saying from the really old days before Turbo Mode that's somehow stuck around. Usually it's around 50-55 frames depending on the exact move. A little bit less than 2x as long as a KOF charge. 6:00 Superjumps don't go any higher than regular jumps, they go farther. 7:40 The main thing that stops throw loops isn't the soft knockdown, it's the throw invulnerability after a knockdown. Sure the soft knockdown adds to that because it leaves you out of position, but it's more of a situational thing. If you tech roll in the corner you give up that invulnerability and open yourself up to getting thrown again immediately. 20:12 Why roll again? You have them cornered, you're only giving up positioning and adding more recovery for yourself. 22:26 One thing to add is that you gotta be wary of supercancels. A "bad" fireball can be used as bait to get an aggressive opponent to jump into a Shining Crystal Bit, or other reversal DM. Especially if supercanceling is still free (aside from the cost of the super) in 15.
@TrulyAmiracle3 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it was still 2 seconds until SF4, guess SFV reduced it to 50f. I'll add a note there. Thanks! Edit: Well damn guess that's not doable. Oh well the KoF charge time is correct at least..
@TrulyAmiracle3 жыл бұрын
Replying to your edits: Yeah the throw invul is something I’m gonna cover in a followup video. I did mention it but I didnt mention quick getup making you lose your throw invul. That was a section I scrapped coz the audio was all jacked up from my recording. Supercancel the fireballs is definitely an option but i cant really add every possible option for every scenario. I just wanted to give some tips on how to deal with zoning as a newcomer. The second roll is very common after a guard cancel; its to give you max distance from the corner. Obviously if you wanna press you can just attack there. Thats why I also showed an example of using in an offensive way (punishing Robert’s tatsu). Yeah I had a text note for superjump saying “further” not higher but I just realized from reading your comment that it’s in a hidden layer There was quite a few of those (correcting the hold trick buffer duration etc). Guess I didnt catch that one.

@TrulyAmiracle3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately Fighting games havent quite figured out how to do a guide that doesnt end up as random text to the new player by the end of it. Not for the lack of trying, but when the tutorial is a lot of text blocks back to back it all gets jumbled up, and they dont have the same luxury other games have where they can introduce the mechanics slowly as you progress in the game. They have to give you all your options at once and it gets overwhelming. Guilty gear xrd had the most interactive guide that went outside the norm (and thems fighting herds) but I still believe a video guide shows you the info you need better than the in-game tutorial.

Option select back+C... that explains a lot thank you, great video I'll definitely recommend and share it from now on. If I had to add something, "ground cancel roll" is also a good offensive option to punish an opponent. -ground cancel roll back, mostly useful in the corner you're roll will evade a special move and you can punish on their recovery. EDIT: my mistake, you did show a GC roll back around 20:00. -ground cancel roll forward, cancel early and depending on the special/combo you should be able to run back and punish while keeping them in the corner.

Both are fine; I’d personally recommend 14 if the goal is to prep for 15 but its online isnt the best so 98 or 2002 are fine to grasp the kof concepts and the flow of the game. just keep in mind that the characters are gonna be very different in 15 compared to the older kofs, and that some of the things in the video are a bit different in the older games as the guide was aimed towards 15. Which kof are you playing? Its more of a factor in 13 and 14 than the older ones. The idea is to do the special or super move a bit earlier than the normal timing and hold the button (eg: quarter forward then hold the punch button). It will hold the special’s whole input and keep repeating it till it comes out.
@DaChocolateGuru3 жыл бұрын
Im playing 14, is there a specific combo i could practice to know im doing it right? Thanks for the reply btw!
@TrulyAmiracle3 жыл бұрын
@@DaChocolateGuru hmm try Kyo’s quarter circle forward D (the upkicks) into half circle back D. It needs to be done right as you land from the upkicks but if you did the hold trick right (right before he lands) it should combo. If the half circle back D doesnt come out it means you did the hold too early (or you did the input wrong). If it comes out and it doesnt combo it means you did the half circle back D way too late. Or try Terry’s EX crack shoot into a light burn knuckle. Same concept as the above, if the burn knuckle misses you were too late, if it doesnt come out you were too early. Another way to try it is doing a ground special when you’re about to land from a jump. If you do the hold trick right you should get an air normal then land immediately into the special. (I show this in the beginning of the hold trick section with Iori’s fireball.)

You didn’t cover alternate guard, people struggle against grapplers, too. ‘98 Daimon comes to mind, with also 2K2UM grapplers in general. You also want to air to air asap, unless specifically you know they are gonna anti air you with a crouch B, then you want a late jump in angled downward. Early Jump in Attacks or expecting to air to air something is a bad idea against grapplers, because they will block or wait for your land and punish with 1 frame grabs all day. Like you illustrated with other anti air options.
@TrulyAmiracle3 жыл бұрын
Alt guard isn't in 14 and most likely 15 which is why I didnt mention it. Care to explain? Give me the combo you’re trying to do maybe there’s a way to make it easier.

Thats why I cover the notation, gotta learn it to adapt. Game is on PC and Xbox as well, its to make it universal.

I think I actually hate this game. I jumped in. Played in training for awhile. Tried story. Lost over and over. Tried casual online. And I have yet to win an actual match. I literally cannot get the inputs down. Shortcuts don't work and I tried and tried for hours. Still have never won one match. I'm going back to guilty gear

Its up to you in the end but your mentality as a newcomer to the series needs to be more about learning as opposed to winning. If you can list some examples I can give you some pointers (maybe) on inputs and shortcuts, but it all comes with practice and time. It’s not as easy as Strive; but its not hard either, just gotta get used to the different engine. Considering how you were losing in story (meaning you didn’t learn the game yet and probably don’t have a team down) jumping online and expecting to start winning right away is not really realistic. Like learning an instrument, you have to actually learn it and practice, cant just pick up a guitar and play a metallica song off the bat. Point is, try to pinpoint the things you’re struggling with and practice them, or look up/research/ask others for answers and tips. If you can list actual examples of your struggles or even clips I’m more than happy to help.

I'm trying to learn haha. My problem is the inputs. I've been trying to do the tutorial super cancel thing for literally hours. This is why I'm feeling like I don't like it. I want to like it but this is just stupid hard. Also it's the fact I can't even win against a CPU. I know it's not the focus. But after 20 ties you think I'll get one. Yes I'm bad at this game. I see that haha

I play guitar. I know this all to well. But even on the first day you can play a simple song. I just want to do this damn tutorial.

@@skakid271 which tutorial? The cancel a super into a bigger one? Can you list the exact character or combo? Are you doing the hold trick? (Holding the buttons when you input the super)
@TrulyAmiracle2 жыл бұрын
@@skakid271 you can play simple song if you know how to learn properly, but if there’s an obstacle and you dont know how to get over it you won’t get anywhere coz you’ll keep repeating the same mistake(s). If you can be more specific i’ll add it to my next video as it involves inputs and common issues I’ve seen around since the game’s release regarding inputs and difficulty.
