I love this channel because the focus seems to be education versus selling. I love listening to filmmakers that share info and not run a shopping network. Thanks Kofi.

@@charlestcrepps huh? It’s a literal conversation about spherical and anamorphic lenses. It’s not even really a “versus” and it’s explaining info not direct selling points. So what are you talking about?

Here's how I think of anamorphics (at least from a technical perspective. the creative perspective is a whole other bag of donuts): the number on the lens is my 35mm equivalent "compression" which is to say that i will get the equivalent of a 40mm depth of field on any anamorphic 40mm lens. the squeeze factor (1.33, 1.5, etc) is the number that my 35mm is divided by to get my 35mm equivalent "field of view". SO, a 40mm 2x anamorphic lens has the depth of field and compression of a 40mm spherical, but the field of view of a 20mm (40mm divided by 2x). Once I locked in this quickmath trick, it makes lens choice and previs so much more clear. Cheers mate. Congrats on the new whip.

It depends on the type of situation that you need for that job. Great job with educating us with this video! I film weddings and corporate works so I am interested in weddings for using anamorphics but in that run and gun setting of weddings, I feel like it would be tough to use.

You would need a golden hand to pull focus or those DJI Lidar systems for autofocus.

I love this video! Also quick question, what is the best way to export anamorphic videos for social media like IG/TikTok/FB etc.. I haven’t found much online , and all my footage always look too stretched or not enough to show the anamorphic characteristics. With all the decompression from these platforms , the math be confusing lol

I typically keep it spherical with 9:16 content ! I think Cam has a video on vertical anamorphic!

@KofiYeboah Great review, Sir!! I think to a certain extent, it also boils down to preference and taste/style of the filmmaker, for spherical vs anamorphic. I cannot speak as much expertly as you, but looking at lenses for my next camera I would definitely look at anamorphic lenses. But also I would have some spherical and other lenses like Sony's G series as well. This video is a great source for research and knowledge. Thanks as always

Hey Kofi, I need your help. I have a Sony fx30 because I mainly focus on filming but I notice that I can get clients with photography but I don’t have another camera, should I sell my camera and buy the Sony a7iv? Or do you think that’s a down grade for filmmaking?

I forgot to mention as well, or should I just save up for Sony a7iv

I think it depends on your style of filmmaking , longer takes the fx30 has a fan and some other things like the audio handle where the a7iv dowsn
