Great sunrise videography! Love running early this time of year. I have been using the Flipbelt since I was introduced to it at the Shamrock Shuffle Expo back in March. I would agree I think it's best when the temp is a little cooler (spring, fall, winter) but it has worked nice this summer too. What I have found is that my phone will "disable" at times while I'm running my route. I've noticed that it usually happens when it gets fairly hot (happens near end of runs) or excessively sweaty. I still really like the belt. The other nice thing is that you can throw it in the wash and dry it easily. Nike also makes a short (very expensive but super nice) called the Flex Swift short that has zippered running pockets. Love the fact that I don't have to worry about anything falling out of the pockets but still do feel heavier items flap around a bit when running. The compression Road Runner shorts are really good and hold everything super tight to the body. Thanks for doing a video on this because anyone who runs with a phone has encountered and thought about these issues.

I’ve used the “SPIbelt” (small personal item) for several years. Many different variations on the website. Works great with phones, and you can add extra “sleeves/pockets” to carry gels, etc. One can also add water bottles that go on the belt. Extremely adjustable. Overall, very little bounce, if any. - edit - (I use the "non-logo SPIbelt" w/ 2ea. extra "SPI Solo-Pockets" and 2 ea. of the older 6oz hydration bottles - only downside .... with gels in the pockets and full water and iPhone load, the belt needs to be tighten a bit more to reduce bounce and slippage, which may be too tight around the waist for some). AND one additional edit - (I use a small piece of 6mil plastic (think HD wastebasket liners) behind the iPhone pocket, and lap it over the front of the pocket as well. In the summer, a great deal of sweat accumulates, and the plastic keeps the phone away from the sweat of the body and the sweat dripping off the shirt).
@kofuzi5 жыл бұрын
does it get very wet with sweat in the summer?
@dewrunning5 жыл бұрын
@@kofuzi No, the material it's not like a "Dri-FIT" shirt that gets soaked and stays soaked with sweat when it's humid. Dries quite fast, and always by the next morning. I just add the plastic overlay on the one pouch that holds the phone, because I'm a minimalist and don't use any type of iPhone case, so I'm extra careful to keep sweat and/or rain water away from it (it's an older iPhone 5s, so I don't really know how waterproof it is). SPIbelt does make some units that are "water-resistant", but I wanted my iPhone to also be able to breathe, so I didn't purchase one of those.

@@blake3037 - I read, long ago, that placing iPhones in a ziplock bag (when sealed), may create a situation where moisture condences inside the bag, and is therefore not recommended. I do know that electronics, like 35mm cameras, should be slowly acclimated to changes in temperatures, or moisture occurs inside the camera. Maybe this is not the case for newer phones....

@slodogg3 жыл бұрын
@@kristianworthy7605 Hi there, nope, never a problem. I've done 4 marathons with it and it's always made it through fine. I've done 4+ hour runs, as well as multi hour hikes and a run the same day and it's handled all that just fine. Same thing, everything on as normal (cell, bluetooth, GPS) and using NRC to track the run. Maybe once or twice a year the battery will decide midday that it thinks it's super low even though it might only be a few hours into a regular day (and I charge it every night), but that is super rare and has nothing to do with running or NRC. Hasn't done it in a long time either so might have been fixed in a software update at some point. I usually try to buy shorts with quality pockets but it can be tricky when running fast and the phone starts bouncing around. I've gotten used to it and buy shorts that are a few inches above my knee so that the phone is more secure than in the usual shorter shorts. In the winter I put the phone in the bags and if it's really cold ill put it in a sock. Without the sock, if it's colder than 20 degrees, my phone usually won't last more than 30 minutes. Which is certainly bad for the phone. Thanks for the video! I always enjoy your content.

On a long run Saturday, I butt dialed an international spam call 😫 and Verizon would not credit my account. Bluetooth connection ins and outs for music just got frustrating. So now, I just take my watch and enjoy my runs. You would be surprised how many funny and odd things you hear with no music. All though my daily runs are in Central Park. So lots of people and conversations

The perfect solution for me has been a case that straps on the hand. You don't have to hold it's and it right in the hand in case you want to look at the screen or even do something with your music, calls, etc . There are different versions of these and most are really inexpensive. No way I'm going to have a large smartphone in my shorts or on an armband where I cant use or see it.

@@kofuzi With the cases I own, the phone is in the palm of your hand with a neoprene in between and a light strap across the back . Or were you just joking referencing the weight of the phone. Anyway I love my cases . Great job with your videos and reviews. Definitely one of the best out there!

If I don't feel like running with a belt or vest, I like my pair of Adidas Men's 4KRFT shorts that are a short/tight hybrid that have a side pocket that fits my S7 without bouncing during runs. Combine that with a Nathan handheld bottle for water and key storage and I'm set.

The only thing I’ve found is working for me in the shorts department, is the NIKE FLEX DISTANCE SHORTS (STYLE#: 892891), which is a 2in1 where the inner tight has a flexible slide-in pocket on the right thigh that fits my iPhone7 and will fit bigger smartphones. It’s working really well to a degree where I almost forget I have a phone with me. Otherwise, I’ll use my Garmin 5 Plus GPS watch, which offers music (both mp3 and Spotify, Deezer etc.) in combination with my Apple AirPods, and opt to leave my iPhone at home (or in the locker when I’m at the gym). I also have a pair of FUSION RUNNING TIGHTS (short, 3/4 or long) that have the same slide-in pocket, however on both thighs.

I still have a 7+ too and the reasons I haven't upgraded is that the battery is still going strong and I don't like the notch on the new iPhones. I've seen rumors that it's going away next year, so I'll just wait and see. I used to upgrade every other year, but that's how much I hate the notch!

I run with an armband, I'm so used to it regardless of temperature (and it gets hot here.. more of the fact it doesn't get cold). Haven't transitioned to a watch as do enjoy music as well... And this seemed to only be on limited devices, but more are coming with music capability so that is promising. My issue I have with shorts is that I hate the bouncing / oscillating phone in a pocket creates. Granted I am not a tights kinda person but will keep an eye on zipped pocket to try to give me more 'confidence'. My wife is enjoying the flip belt for her due to the secure fit.

I don't bring a phone with me unless its a long trail run and I wear a hydro pack for that. I have found that I've been able to avoid getting run over by using my ears more than my eyes and listening to music would be a risk. I'm old, so I learned to run long distances without needing music etc. for a distraction. Also, depending on a phone can become a crutch and not having one during a race could be a problem for some.
