Brooks Ghost Max After 100 Miles

I have to say that it has been a LONG time since I’ve found myself agreeing with a Kofuzi shoe review. But for this one I found myself nodding at every point in agreement as it was consistent with my own experience with this shoe. It’s definitely a super plush and comfortable shoe to pamper the legs and feet that is easy to get out and coast through sub 10mile (16k) runs. It has a great foam, that only gets better as it breaks in, that really is a joy to run in. Not just for Brooks, but any running shoe, it’s actually quite a good looking shoe. Lastly, very poor outsole rubber wear that really cut into the usability of the shoe for me. It’s nice to see we aren’t on opposite ends of everything always. Great review. Happy to see it! 🤙🏻

Let's go! Been loving running with the brooks ghost max too. Perfect for a heavy runner like me the cushion on the forefoot is just right and comfy, compared to the glycerin 21 which i don't feel good as much because of the high drop

Enjoyed the first 120 miles. The rocker created a surprisingly fun experience for such a big shoe. Then the foam creased at the first metatarsal joint on both shoes and it pinches my skin, creating blisters. Odd breakdown of the shoe with so few miles.

I suffer from R.A. and walk around 7 miles a day at my job, the brooks Ghost have been a god send, the brooks Adrenaline, were my first pair that I bought and were very good as well.

Here in India i got the Ghost Max for Rs.5150 (around US $ 62) . So out here value wise the Ghost Max is the one to get.

Another opinion here: The NB More felt like running in quicksand compared to the Ghost Max for me. i haven’t tried the Triumph, but at the time I purchased the Ghost Max, it felt a lot lighter and more nimble.

Uggh I have glycerin 21 and it is nice but my one complaint is that we don’t need more foam just slightly more resilient or bouncy and slightly firmer foam in the forefoot .

How would the Ghost Max compare to the NB 880? its giving me a similar vibe the 880 is currently my fave daily trainer - Ill even give it that over ones I wore last year - the updates all around on that shoe have been excellent

I haven’t run in the 880 in a while, but conceptually, the 880 would line up more with the Ghost (non max). But in practice, I do think the experiences between the 880 and the Ghost Max would be more comparable.

I'd always considered Brooks as a brand that used more rubber but it appears to be an overall trend. I don't think that you can really avoid it either. It is an incentive to fix running issues if you have uneven wear as wear can be pretty fast in that case.

I wish they’d taken that prototype and made a real marathon shoe out of that without changing the light weight and the bounciness of the midsoles. They just needed to tweak it a bit (I got a small hot spot from the the upper). It didn’t even need a plate to be a very fun shoe.

How does it compare to Cumulus 25 ? Both cumulus 25 and ghost max are available at similar price, and I'm really confused. Current shoe is Nike Pegasus 39.

The first Brooks shoe I have returned. I got 33 miles in it and it just felt clunky and awkward to run in for my mechanics. Loved walking in it, but didn't need a walking shoe. Thanks to REI co-op return policy I was able to take it back.

I got it to replace the Nimbus 26, which felt a lot heavier and warmer and less nimble. So for me, the Ghost Max was a relief, since it worked much better for me.

I am still confused about their offerings. In my opinion from the non-race easy training group, the best choice is Glycerin 21 unless you want to save $20 or $10. All other options (including Ghost, Ghost max, adrenaline or budget models are slightly inferior)

I wanted to ask… don’t you guys have a feeling there is a slight decrease of interesting running shoes lately? or at least a mild shortage of exciting new releases. i mean it is apparent on the shoetubers’ content. and I don’t mean specifically you, mike, I think you maintain a solid production of new reviews compared to the others… but so long since last Cliftons, vain hype around Ons, dull Supernova series, endless wait for Boston 13s and Superblast 2s, possibly Invincibles 4s… the only exciting shoe since the beginning of the year is Rebel v4, but I am not risking them to go absolutely dead within 200k such as previous versions… luckily the trail world is having some cool stuff, but bad times on the road for a solid and performative daily trainers. amiright? probably not

I did not like the ghost 14 10 runs and I gave it away to friend in the Philippines, I tried but no go to firm and I was sore after 6 miles, I did love the caldera 3 for trails but the 5 caldera lacing ugh, so I have stayed away from brooks a couple years now , but the max caught my attention but I run mostly in the clifton 9 for everyday running so it's hard to compare, I went topo for last trail shoe, not to bad , could use just a lil more cushion, maybe 8 will lean for street shoe I will try novablast?

The designer of this shoe needs a raise, it looks fantastic. However, the person who chose the materials needs a performance review. The fast rubber wear and it holding smell makes this shoe a no go for me. Ugh, I like it though. Hopefully they keep the same design and use superior materials next time.

I bought this hsoe and agree with everything here. I will say that I always use clean socks, bathe twice a day and have not gotten these shoes wet and they SMELL AWFUL!! I have no other shoes with this problem but these are going to have to go in the garbage because they smell so badly!

It depends what you’re comparing it to. If you like shoes like the NB More, or the Nimbus 26 (or even the NB 1080). I far preferred the Ghost Max. It feels lighter and much more nimble and versatile. The roll geometry either works for you or (it appears) doesn’t. If it does, it’s a pretty fun ride.
