❄️ Kogan 14000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Review & Unboxing (2019) ❄️
In this video I'll be doing an unboxing and review of the Kogan 14000 BTU 4.1kW Portable Air Conditioner. At the start of the video i'll unpack the box, show you what's included and then will demonstrate the AC unit in an up close setting so you can see how it functions. Overall I think this is a great AC unit for the price. It's super important to ensure you have a suitable window opening for the hot exhaust to blow out of the room otherwise you will end up with unit that just blows cold air one end and hot out the other into your house/room.

*It should be law here in Australia that landlords have proper air-conditioning in rentals and not some brown rattlebox from the 80s in the living room wall. bedrooms should have air-con also. especially when some places reach 45-48 degrees during summer here*

*Solid, **Fastly.Cool** and gets the job done. For rooms where window-mounted air conditioning is not an option, this works very well. Easy set up, rapid cooling, and great design.*

Cheers for doing this! If you're planning on spending some $$ for air con and wanna be sure it will do what you need it to, this is a perfect way to find out. So thank you! Plus as a fellow rentee (and someone who has very little idea on how the hell to jimmy other window solutions together) loved the nifty alternative you put together! 😊😊

I’ve got the ducting in a sliding door with a long bit of card board holding it firmly in place with a quality gaffer tape anchoring it in place . Works a treat and can remove it when I go out backyard or to lock up. I recommend a few episodes of either Play School or another Arts and Crafty type t.v episodes. It worked really well just cutting a cardboard flap to cover the ducting.

Thanks jimmy, as I mentioned in one of the other comments, I will note that the room itself didn’t cool as much as I would have hoped, I used it on the hottest day in Melbourne (42) but the unit could only get the room to about 26 so it struggled a little. I used it on a more mild day around 30 and it could cool the room to about 17, 18. I think the fact that the hot air pipe radiates heat is a factor. The unit is fairly noisy too so make sure you’re prepared for that! :) cheers Dave
@bbsr222616
@bbsr222616 5 жыл бұрын
For it to work effectively the room should be properly insulated and no air should flow from any gaps into the room. Use duct tapes to block any such gap.The length of the exhaust pipe determines how effectively it would cool the room. The reason why it struggles to reach below 26 is that it has to cool down the exhaust pipe that is inside the room and is hot. Depending on outdoor temperature, the ac can go till 16 (dry mode mostly rainy days). So if it reached 26 on a hot day with high outside temperature 42, I would say it did decent job.

You forgot about letting external air into the room, you're exhausting hot air through the window thereby creating negative air pressure, so you need to replace this air. Otherwise the unit won't work properly.

Not sure if you're willing to throw money at a review, but the Kogan vertical window AC is on sale atm. You should do a review on that ;) Also, have you seen the two pipe mod that people do for these? It sucks in air from outside to cool the condenser, rather than inside air. Usually more efficient. I'm thinking of getting one of these as same, rental... but not sure I want to deal with the inefficiency or noise (compared to that of a proper window rattler or a split system)

Hey mate, it’s a little noisy I’ll be honest. The air it blows out is very cool though, although I wouldn’t say it can cool the room as well as an actual split system, it has made working upstairs ok in summer for me though and thats all I needed it for.
@DTUnboxed
@DTUnboxed 5 жыл бұрын
Yeh if you can get a window unit or a split it’s a much better investment. This works for my office but as you mentioned, emptying the water is a hassle and the room itself doesn’t cool as well as one would like.

@DTUnboxed
@DTUnboxed 5 жыл бұрын
I’d say there would be no need for the exhaust with heating. But to be honest I’m not 100% sure on that one, maybe email Kogan directly or ask someone at Harvey Norman in the AC department since they sell other portable split systems. (I’m on holidays atm, so can’t check it on my unit right at this moment)

my room is a bit smaller maybe 9sqm. It'll take the temp of your room down by about 10-15 degrees from outside from my experience. So is you set it to 16, it will try, but it won't get there, especially if it's 40+ degrees. If you're sitting in front of it, it's very cool though.

I just used a stanly knife to cut out the hole and this tape (www.bunnings.com.au/scotch-48mm-x-18-2m-tough-no-residue-duct-tape_p1661182) to hold everything in airtight.
