Awesome review bud thanks heaps. I have a small high set 3 bed in Brisbane. Trying to figure out if I should get two of these (1 in lounge area and 1 in bedroom to flow to other beds) or whether a bigger system in lounge would do the lot. Lounge is about 24 squares and bedrooms about 9 each. Very small hallway about 6 sq and kitchen/dining about 26 sq. Any opinion you have would be great mate. Cheers. Matt
@mythisthat3739
@mythisthat3739 6 жыл бұрын
staytrueau sorry for the late reply, as long as you have have enough airflow from the larger main unit to the other rooms then the cool air should make it but, you'd probably find that it would be better to get a large unit for a lounge dining area and then another one for a bedroom, that then allows you to isolate areas and you don't need to have to run 1 unit full power all the time to overcome the heat and humidity especial being in Brisbane. Also insulation to your house makes a huge difference to how your house is cooled. As per always hope this helps in some way.

Well, I did have it connected to a power usage meter which my desk computer and two monitors are connected to and over 3 months with heavy usage of the A/C unit it all cost me roughly $60 according to the usage meter. I need to re configure the meter though for more accurate readings so i'll do that. Might post a new video in a few weeks with an update on how the unit has been going. Hope that helps.

Hi, just wondering if you used the heater function over winter & how it went. Does it still need to be vented outside for heating? Also, does it weigh much when it arrives in its box? Thanks, it's a useful review.
@mythisthat3739
@mythisthat3739 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue, thanks for the comment and great question . I have used it over winter and it performs very well - I did remove the exhaust funnel when using it during winter but that was just to help circulate air around the room a bit more - but I don't think you need to do that, can't remember what the manual said. It came it a large box and is fairly heavy due to the compressor etc so i'd recommend two people to ensure you don't do your back, its more awkward to lift then anything, so keep that in mind if you are thinking of taking it up stairs, but I still managed solo. It has wheels so its easy to roll around on a solid floor if that helps. Sing out if you need to know anything else.

Just wondering I’m getting a slightly under power one the 12,000 btu one but I’m only using it for my very small bedroom max 5sq M. What temp in Celsius is the lowest you reckon these types of things can go. I’m pretty sure it goes down to like 17c but could it actually make the room that cold? Just wondering how cool could it make a very small room on a semi-cool and very hot day. Thanks
@mythisthat3739
@mythisthat3739 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, mine goes down to 17c but not sure if that is a true 17c - really need to get a temp gauge to check it against. The room temp will depend on how well insulated it is. My home office is roughly 10sqm (I think from memory) and I usually run the unit at 22 degs for roughly 1hr and the room drops enough to be comfortable, but the room I am in compared to the one in the video is insulated much better. Solid floor, not timber and brick outer wall and insulated high ceilings all of these things make a huge difference.

What do you require to run a hose outside to get rid of water? Does this mean you never have to empty the water?
@mythisthat3739
@mythisthat3739 6 жыл бұрын
xxzzxx99 I think just a long pipe running outside would work but it needs to be flowing down hill, so no upward bends from what I have read, though I haven’t had to empty the water from mine at all this summer so far and it’s been humid so for me this summer it’s been very efficient at not needing an empty.

hey mate just wondering have you ever got the FL error on your one if so how do you fix it
@tongansaggi
@tongansaggi 6 жыл бұрын
FL means the water tank is full. Here are the instructions from user guide. 1. Unplug power cord and remove exhaust pipe assembly. 2. Move conditioner to appropriate location. 3. Disconnect the plug in the water drainage outlet and water will drain. 4. Replace the plu into the drainage outlet. 5. Reinstall the exhaust pipe assembly and restart the unit. Hope this helps.

@mythisthat3739
@mythisthat3739 6 жыл бұрын
I think in your case you'd find the 16,000 BTU or the bigger 18,000 model's to be better. The worst thing you want to do is get a unit that is of less power that needs to run at a higher fan rate if you get what I mean. When I was looking at which unit I did a simple Google for "BTU to room size" which can help work out what size unit is going to be best. Now if your cooling the rest of your house, you'd want to put this in the biggest room to cool that first (if in use) and then let the cool air flow down and into the other areas, if you have ceiling fans they are definitely going to help to circulate the air. Maybe check out www.calculator.net/btu-calculator.html hope this all helps.

I have the same portable Aircon but it hardly cools down the room. It's over a year old with me now and when I turn it on, I can hardly feel cold air, not even when I'm directly in front of it, 7 months ago, it worked fine. Not sure if it's the filter's fault because I have no idea where the filter is, so could you please give me Advise?
@mythisthat3739
@mythisthat3739 5 жыл бұрын
Hey there, not sure what is happening. Might be an issue with the condenser. If you have it on cold setting and set it say 18 degs do you hear the condenser kick in? Initially it will be fan sound but then it should switch to the condenser and the unit will shake a bit. I haven't yet had to clean out the intake filters but these are down the left side and back (the little vents) from what I can tell the back casing needs to come off to do that clean. Take this all with a pinch of salt, I'm not a A/C - Refrigerant technician.

Hey mate. Yep it's still going strong, only issue I have is the exhaust pipe material has aged and is starting to split, but that's an easy replacement. The unit itself has been working solidly since, I regularly clean the filters every 2 months or so. It might be loud for some, for me I could sleep with it on no issues. I'd say it would be like sleeping next to a tumble dryer type of volume level wise. Hope that helps, sorry for the 3 week delay reply. Cheers.

Hey mate, do you have to drain it often? If so how often?
@mythisthat3739
@mythisthat3739 6 жыл бұрын
If its humid then yea I do - but you can easily over come this by either adding a bucket to the back of it and using the hose to drain while running which then takes ages to fill up or if you have the ability run the hose outside. As I don't like having a bucket fully open in a room where it could spill I use a large container which has a hole cut into it for the pipe to squeeze into - so if for some reason it falls over I don't have water everywhere. Hope that helps.

@mythisthat3739

Hi Katia - Thanks for the comment. I currently have it setup in a new house compared to the one in the video and it has been fine, I move it from room to room now and again when guests stay over and it only takes a second to remove it from the window. The window unit just slots into the window slider gap, no screws or glue to hold it in. I then slide the window closed and use a bit of wood to keep it tight against it to make sure the seal is good enough. Ill be sure to detail that in the next video. Hope that helps.

Hi I bought the same unit a couple of years ago. It's filling up at the bottom with water and going on the floor, not much water is coming out of the drain hole when I empty it. Salon when it's running it sounds like there's water running around in it. I clean all the filters but still having that problem daily. Hey there, ...Please help! I got one recently and I have no tools whatsoever. I am an older woman and therefore when the instructions tell me to fix the vent to the window seal with the supplied screws, I have been trying to do this by hand or with teeny tiny mini screwdrivers. Did you have to drill holes into the plastic of the window seal to fix the vent to it? Sorry but I don't want to ask my ex to help me!
@mythisthat3739
@mythisthat3739 6 жыл бұрын
Shelley O , ah yes from memory this got me as well the window seal plastic sliders didn't have any screw holes so what I did was applied a bit of double sided tape to hold on place then, used a small nail or needle will do and holding it with plyers if you have some and then heat it up so that you can slightly burn a pilot hole into the plastic this then makes it much easier to screw in the tiny screw for the slide. Alternatively. Use bigger screw which grab the slide, from memory the issue was just getting the screw to grab the plastic. Hope that helps, seems complex but be safe either way.

I did just that -used a bigger screw to make a hole gradually, a little at a time. I have been able to move it between two rooms now. Next thing I am attempting is to make it fit to a sliding glass door (I ordered another window kit to add onto the existing one. I'll let you know how I go.

Not 100% certain of its individual cost to run as I have it plugged into a power board which has my computer running off as well (2 screens, surface and a desktop computer) - these all then feed back into a Energy Cost Meter (Arlec) which has been reporting since 25th September 2017 - AC has been used on and off during that time for hours and minutes total cost for that Period is currently around $46 give or take (rough calc based on rate inputted) if interested I could make another video just metering the AC and see what its 30min power consumption is at high fan speed and 18 degs cold? Like this post if anyone is keen for that.
