Kohler K321 Rebuild First Run: Cub Cadet 147

My first try at rebuilding an old Kohler seems to have worked out. Fired right up and runs very well.

Hey there. I've been busy with property improvements, not much tractor time. I just installed a gas heater in the shop so I can keep after it. If I can catch a few more warm days and get the hood and fenders painted, I might just get this thing wrapped up before Christmas! Thanks for watching.

Hi, where did you find your rebuilted K321 ? I've got an old Case 224 with a broken K321-60258D Kohler motor. Not very easy to find ! Thank's for your help.

Hi Denis. The K321 is the one that come with the tractor originally. I had a machine shop bore it .20 over and grind the valve/seats. The rest of the rebuild I did myself. They are very simple to work on. Let me know if I can help you.

Hi Mr Saturn and thank you for your quick answer. In fact, my son forgot to put oil inside and the motor has broken. It's impossible to mend it (crankcase, piston and rod broken...). I'm furious... Now the last solution for me is to find an rebuilt or used K321. Unfortunately i didn't find anything (i'm writing from France) If you have some ideas, please let me know ! This tractor is a collector and i don't fancy to destroy it... PS : you've got a very nice renovation ! Best regards, Denis.

Denis Lostaplaa I understand your frustration with the motor and the kid! :D How about ebay in France? ebay.eu/1GMS8nZ I know that is a block only, but you get the idea. Please forgive if there is something about FR ebay I don't understand. I agree, don't scrap the old collector. Depending on which model, you can repower with modern, but that's not my first choice. May I ask, did you keep the breaker points or did you upgrade to electronic ignition? I have an old Bobcat skid steer with this engine and i'm trying to decide if i should make the upgrade.

Glenn Colassi You may want to upgrade if you plan on working the Bobcat a lot. I was going more for an OEM restoration, so I kept the IGN as is. It's running very well so I'm happy with the time-tested components.

No, I just had to set it aside for the time being. In the end, the advice was to toss the gauge aside and adjust it til it works, lol.
