Hi Andy, if your pipe work is solvent weld waste pipe it is smaller than the grey pressure pipe which the rubber boots are designed for. To get around this solvent weld a waste pipe straight connector to the end of the pipe and this increases the diameter making it a much better fit so less strain in the boot.

Hi andy. It was good to meet you at koi show in Coventry. Glad you remembered our conversation about the hinged guards. I screwed a box like section of wood to the pond wall. Eventually im going to fit decking lights under the hinge side to shine in the water. Don't knock it till you've tried it

2 local farmers have started to use the river for water and it looks like this area could go into a water ban in the next week or so 2 supermarkets have put restrictions on water. UV light should be off the ballast will over heat in this weather and burn out. Ice in the filter system will cool the pond down if it gets to hot they will take around 60-90 min to melt. One more point keep an eye on the pond water level the heat can cause the ground to sink or brickwork to split.
@PondKoiTipsTricks2 жыл бұрын
If you have a tv set top box or sky virgin make sure they are off when you go out due to the heat. Make sure you take paint and white spirit out of sheds and put it in the open in shade. Do not have mobile phone charges plugged in if you cannot see them. Ballasts for pond pumps air pumps and UV filters should be kept off through the day as these can explode with overheating. Its also a good idea to soak well any shed or summerhouse late at night. You should also check your loft if it’s insulated for dust build up which can catch fire.
@KoiPondLifestyle2 жыл бұрын
Why soak the shed at night??
@PondKoiTipsTricks2 жыл бұрын
@@KoiPondLifestyle Around 10pm to let the water soak into the wood overnight will not work if you have cuprinol or ronseal on the shed. Infact both of these will atract the sun as will painted decking.

I have a little honda gas powered generator. Good idea spraying water over the pond but I think you could buy those garden misters to aerate some of the chlorine out. A bit of chlorine could potentially increase the dissolved oxygen in the water but you have to keep in mind a relatively safe dose for a length of time. Great insightful video.

Looking on one of the Japanese sites I found this: Basically, fountains are pointless and pond pumps should not be on with air pumps and air pumps on through the day are a waste of time and should be on 10pm-8am only and I have no idea what a Paddlewheel aerator is. Fish ponds may experience a loss of oxygen at any time of the year, depending on the weather and amount of nutrient enrichment the pond has received; however, most oxygen depletions occur in warm weather and usually follow a period of cloudy, overcast conditions. Low oxygen concentration in pond water means stress and possibly death for the pond fish. When fish die from low oxygen, Common causes of oxygen depletion include cloudy weather, sudden death of algae or plants in the pond, and wind mixing the pond water. Just two to three days of overcast weather can cause oxygen production to diminish. Oxygen demand is usually lower than oxygen production when fish populations are properly managed, nutrients are limited and fish feed is applied sparingly. Oxygen depletion begins when fish and other pond organisms use oxygen faster than algae, plants and diffusion can produce it. Fountains that lift water high above the pond water surface may be useful, but typically have lower oxygen efficiency per unit of horsepower because they work harder to get the “fountain” effect. Paddlewheel aerators float on the water surface and are connected to a power source on the bank using a waterproof cord. Paddlewheels move water away from the aerator as the water is mixed with air. After the paddlewheel has operated for several minutes, a circulation pattern is created in the pond that brings water with low oxygen to the aerator while pushing oxygenated water away into the pond. Air pumps are not a good idea as the bubbles tend to take time to dissipate so loose half of the oxygen produced pond aeration in general, is best to set aerators to operate during the night, usually between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Aeration during the day is not necessary and has no benefit pumps should not be on with aeration due to the water being dissipated to quickly for any oxygen to take full effect.

Unless you have a dissolved oxygen meter you'll never truly know the oxygen levels in your pond. Best way to get oxygen back into the water if you have a crash is any kind of splash aeration, fountains, pumps etc. Much better than air pumps. As for the hose idea this won't actually produce much oxygen, because you're not taking your water in your pond and recirculating to create the oxygen you're only adding to what's there, you'd be better doing a 50% water change. It's like if you had high ammonia in the pond would you just add water or would you actually take out what's there? Another thing I would mention is feeding, this doesn't apply to everyone but if water temperatures exceed 26°c then it wouldn't hurt just to cut back until it cools down a little, especially for those people who keep sturgeon as they require much higher oxygen levels than koi.
