Nice tip on reactivating/refreshing the EA dechlotinator. Must admit I never thought of that. I use a liquid dechlorinator when doing my water changes and it works well but this is much easier for trickle in systems. Hugs to Ollie...what a great looking dog. Cheers.

Cracking idea Mark bruva I would recommend a bead of silicone {ct1 or gold label} around the rubber that will be attached to the clear section of pipe 👍👍👍

Great tip on the dechlorinater. Surprised no-one hasn't made their own like with the upflow filters. Yes, always keep empty tubs 😂 Stay safe (Keith).

Ince you have used for a week take apart as carbon will have settled down in side and you should be able too add some more carbon.

@@jossandmarkskoilife858 Ive been using this since last july , so could top up , I put a flow meter on tap to monitor how much goes in each time so i didnt exceed the stated usage which at current rate would be a couple of years at least but I should keeping adding carbon and just keep using ?

I've got a simple RO filter for topping off my aquariums which is just a single canister that holds the RO membrane but no pre or post membrane filter. It's cheaper that way because the damned multistage RO filters are overpriced as hell and I didn't think I needed all that. However, I just found out that chlorine can reduce the life of the RO membrane, though if I'm having to replace a carbon filter more frequently than the RO filter, I'd probably not be saving more money. However, I've got a small float in the sump of my riparium for automatic top-offs that is hooked into the RO system, and even though dissolved organic carbon in the tank water quickly neutralizes the tiny amount of chlorine occasionally coming in, I figured it'd be good to get the chlorine out of the water beforehand anyway just to be sure. And of course because every God forsaken thing in the aquarium hobby is overpriced af, including a basic carbon reactor, I'm just gonna try out a cheap small carbon filter for ice machines, etc. and see how long that lasts. I don't like to do maintenance, so if it doesn't work for very long, I might see if I could rig up a large diy pre-filter like this that could last for a few years considering I only use about a gallon every other day.

You said 31/2 kg of activated carbon but you poured 2 bags in and then a bit more so is it 41/2 or 5kg not 31/2 ?
@mikeweldon99712 жыл бұрын
Hi mate will this carbon be effective
@mikeweldon99712 жыл бұрын
Sorry what type of carbon is most effective , did you use the real fine granules or pellets
@jossandmarkskoilife8582 жыл бұрын
@Mike Weldon hi thanks you for your comment. I have used the activated carbon granules
