great idea on the covers to stop them blowing off.

I use thick bubble wrap to cover te pond. Its the 4mm thick kind with the aluminum backing on it and big air bubbles (pockets) Also use it to cover up the filter en trickle tower. Awsome stuff. It costed me 90 euro for 50 meters of this stuff (thats about £76 for 165 foot). At the end of the winter you take of the ducktape on the aluminum side roll it back up and store it for next year.

Hi Andy another great video, I have always covered my pond but had to raise them up because the fish had scars on them from the wood frames so put some 4x2 round to sit the covers on

Hey great videos as always, what do you think the difference in water temperature is having these on as to not having them? Thinking of covering my pond with polycarbonate sheet but still in two minds with water temperature benefits.

They don't really stop the dropping temps over winter. I use them to mainly stop the pond freezing and reduce the windchill. 😉👍

As always a pleasure watching. Doing all the same here in KC. It seems like you just took the covers off a short time ago. Short season it seems like.

@@KoiPondLifestyle we usually get a little. Last year was the worst year they have had in a long time the locals say. Hope this year is a lot more mild.

Well my power banks came into use last night for my mobile phone and the backup battery for my laptop and old phone I keep for connecting to my laptop for the internet and hot water in water bottles for coffee and tea. Lighting I bring out the led lights which run on batteries. Power has now been off for 20 hours. The fish should be OK as they were only on the air pump now but I will have to go down and fix the covers once this high wind has gone. Storm Arwen: Around 5,000 customers across the north and north-east without power - all the postcodes affected the storm is moving south.

Well no power again and outside water is still frozen. The pond seems to be doing OK and fish are swimming around that water is 9.6c This has confirmed now that I will get two water butts so I can trickle water into the pond should my water freeze up in the future or the water is off for long periods. People seem to of lost the instinct to survive and are complaining they have no power no water that they cannot cook have a shower or charge their mobile. They don’t seem to of thought of what to do in a power cut or bad weather I always turn my heating on full when they say bad weather just in case of power cuts and if the electric does go off fill water bottles with the hot water out of the radiators. Also fill 3 water bottles with the hot water out of the tap which can be used for tea or coffee have five battery LED lights which I use for light and always have a box of 40 batteries just in case plus a 2 ring camping stove for cooking and a calor gas heater to bring out when needed. I have power packs for my mobile and to connect to the computer I always keep an old mobile for connecting to the laptop to give me mobile broadband plus a fire stick to stick into the computer for TV. Temperature outside is down to -3c and it could drop to -8c through the night still snowing but they say it’s moving down to the midlands overnight.

Hello if you don’t mind me asking what bottom drain and what type off pipe are you using for the bottom drain? Is it pressure pipe or just black 110mm waste pipe? Thanks
@KoiPondLifestyle3 жыл бұрын
Hiya, I used a fitted bottom drain and 4" pressure pipework from the bottom drain..

Nice video Andy. Have you insulated your air pump hose? Can't remember where you have it located. I'm wondering about the effect feeding icey cold air through the bottom drain has on the warmth of the water, seeing as the pond is heated this year. Stay safe (Keith).
@KoiPondLifestyle3 жыл бұрын
Hiya, Yes all the air hose is insulated to the filters but the pond disks will be coming out. The pump is in the garage so feeds the pipes with warm air as well...😉👍

It seems that not everything is covered by your home insurance freezer and fridge contents are covered for mechanical breakdown but not for a power cut. The electricity company say. If the power cut was caused by bad weather, for example a storm damaged power lines - you’ll get the following compensation regardless of how many homes were affected: • £70 if the power was off for 24 hours (this can be 48 hours if it was a severe storm) • £70 for each following 12 hours, up to a maximum of £700 If your power comes on and goes off again compensation will not be paid. NOTE: Home insurance will not be valid as this would be classed as an act of God on your policy.
