btw hold control + press your left mouse button and move around, to in/decrease the size of the brush, so its easier to mask small details

instead of switching from H for hand and then alt + w to go back to the roto brush, you can just hold H for the hand and move around to where you want, then let go of H, and the roto brush should just automatically be there.

Even better, you can just hold down and drag with the middle mouse wheel so you don't even have to move your left hand.

One thing though u can get the newest version of after effects which has rotobrush 2.0 which is alot more op than the regular one combine it with this and u can probably mask the whole clip in a minute

roto brush always fucks up when i'm almost done and then i have to go back and refine from the beginning all over again so i just do it the old way from now on :') tbh i think rotobrush is way more time consuming even on the rare off chance it doesn't screw up

its always easy to roto brush a high fps video like 60 or higher !! there will be no error mostly in high fps video !! no DED FRAMES I mean

Love your tutorials. Idk if you tried it yet but Modo is also a really great tool for masking in AE as well. I used to love the roto brush in AE but it never really offered as clean of cuts as Modo did for me. It comes pre-packaged in AE nowadays, you should give it a try if you haven't already.

can somebody help me because like say if I'm masking a video it takes me like 15 to 30 mins just to do 1 frame and then when i go to the next frame its all over the place and then ill do like 10 more frames and it still does the same thing like I gotta keep going back to the previous frames and keep changing or fixing it also i have to keep adding and removing the pink outlines to make it perfect and in the video when hes doing it hes barely changing anything in between the frames but i gotta change 50 things for each frame?

If you are trying to rotobrush a composition you can try double clicking the preview instead of the layer. I think it's because when you double click the pre comp you open it instead of going in to layer mode

I have an mask saber effect that I want to combine with rotobrush to have it follow the movements of the character is there a way to copy the saber effec onto the rotobrush selection?

The saber effect only works with pen tool mask…. LUCKILY there is a way to combine it with rotobrush (sort of). 1. Just mask a character out with rotobrush 2. Once you’re done precompose your clip 3. Select the clip, go to the top of your screen, click on layer, click on autotrace layer 4. Make sure when you click on autotrace layer you don’t select “current frame” but select something like “work area” 5. Then click ok and it should work
