Burn The Floor: It's like SJ saying, hey we got musical performers here. One song that also has a unique choreo is SPY, they don't like that song tho. It's like their Achilles' heel in every random dance challenge

SJ started out as a crazy idea, but their success inspired companies now to produce large boyband grps. Now it is a common thing. U is particularly a blueprint for large group choreos. They also started the idea of subunits - a concept that was not clearly understood before but it is common now. And SJ is really a group in which members' individualities are highlighted and sometimes you'll have the feel of their personalities from their stage outfits. I have read somewhere that some groups nowadays kinda struggle with developing their individualities. This group is packed with a variety of distinct personalities and every relationship between any 2 members is unique.

"Sorry Sorry Answer" was released in 2009 just like "Sorry Sorry" was, but as you may have noticed, they have completely different vibes. Although "Sorry Sorry Answer" has a few of the same lines and samples the melody from "Sorry Sorry" -- this was not the ballad version of "Sorry Sorry" -- they are separate songs that are considered partner songs because the story kind of continues from one song to the next. You should really look up the lyrics to both songs to see what they are talking about. "Sorry Sorry" was first and "Sorry Sorry Answer" comes next because it's their answer to what they are talking about in "Sorry Sorry." Fun fact: One way you can tell that this MV was from 2009 is because Hangeng (Super Junior's Chinese member, and the first non-Korean member of a Kpop group) is in these MVs and he left the group in 2010. There are 11 members of the original 13 member main group of SuJu in this MV -- Leeteuk, Heechul, Hangeng, Yesung, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook and Kyuhyun. Kibum did not participate in this song and KangIn was the first of the SuJu members to enlist in the military, so he had just left for the military right before this. (However, all 13 members are in "Sorry Sorry.") The Studio version of "Sorry Sorry Answer," which you just heard, is good, but you haven't truly experienced just how great this song is until you hear the live performance sung by Super Junior-K.R.Y. because even though the Sorry Sorry harmony parts are sung by all the members in the MV and album version, "Sorry Sorry Answer" is really K.R.Y.'s song.(That is why you primarily only see K.R.Y. singing in the MV. The main runs and adlibs aren't even sung by any of the SuJu members in the MV -- SM's producer and vocal coach Yoo YoungJin is the voice you hear.) Super Junior- K.R.Y. is one of Super Junior's 5 sub-units and this unit is made up of SJ's 3 main vocalists (Kyuhyun, Ryeowook and Yesung -- hence the name K.R.Y. ), who are 3 of the best vocalists in the industry. Once you hear it live in concert you will understand what I mean. Please check out the live version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZaVXmiNgZKglcU (this video even has English subs so you can see what the song is about.) Once you hear SuJu's main vocalists perform this whole song themselves you will understand why they are considered the top vocalists in the industry. You also should check out the live solo version of "Sorry Sorry Answer" with Eunhyuk, who is SJ's main dancer and main rapper. Eunhyuk's performance of "Sorry Sorry Answer" is a must watch for any SuJu fan. If you are impressed seeing him dance and rap in the MV, just wait until you see his live version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6K3e61tpNtjmbs You will understand why he is SuJu's dancing machine after you see his performance, as well. ;P Welcome to the world of SuJu, they will blow you away and confuse you all at the same time. That is one thing you will get to know about Super Junior -- they are amazing performers and singers, but they are also one of the craziest and weirdest groups around. You will never know what to expect from them. And they are constantly switching up their style and sound. With so many members and with so many sub-units, as well as the fact that their career spans so many years, they have pretty much covered all aspects of the entertainment industry and all styles of music and dance. Once you get to know them better, you will see that they are more unique than any other Kpop group out there. So many of SuJu's members personalities are completely polar opposite of each other that it makes for a very unique and unusual dynamic within their group, but that's what makes them so special. When the group was originally put together they were supposed to be a project group that would only be together for a few months, so SM didn't really create the group with a specific concept or style, so the members are very diverse. And I think that is one of the reasons why SuJu's sound and style is much more organic and fluid because it's constantly changing and evolving like how SM originally had planned for the group. In the beginning SM planned for the members to leave Super Junior '05 and become members of different groups, etc., but because of the love of E.L.F. they ended up staying together as a permanent group. So the way the group was formed and the members were chosen is a little differently than most Kpop groups.

Thanks for starting your Super Junior journey. There are groups out there with huge and loyal fandoms too. I don’t want to disparage or insult any group or fandom out there, but it’s hard to describe the bond ELF and Super Junior have. We’ve seen them go from kids(like we were) into grown men. We’ve seen them go through losing members. To some members almost losing their lives in accidents. We’ve seen our leader go through things no one can even imagine and still come back and lead the group and put the members and fans first. Their music is amazing, probably the most diverse catalog in kpop, the most unique personalities. Every one of them is variety gold. But yeah, the bond between group and fans is just something special.

"U" is Kyuhyun's debut, so Ryeowook and Kyuhyun were babies here. Kyuhyun was only 17 when he debuted and Ryeowook was about 18. "U" was released about 6 months after "Twins." Fun fact: Kyuhyun is such a talented singer that he only was a trainee for about 3 months before becoming a member of Super Junior and he was made a main vocalist from the very beginning -- even as teenagers they were amazing vocalists. All 13 members are here. Some just have larger parts in the song than others. But I guarantee that they are all there. :D It wasn't until the addition of Kyuhyun and their release of "U" that they got their first win on a music program, and at that point they were at the tipping point -- pretty much one win away from SM deciding whether to break up the group, because the group wasn't seeing the success that SM wanted them to in order to make it worth keeping them together. I'm not sure if you noticed this, but the girl is Yoona from Girls Generation, Super Junior's little sister group, and they debuted in 2007. So, "U" came out before Yoona had even debuted. You should check out Super Junior-M's version of "U" next. "U" (Mandarin version), was SuJu-M's debut song. They also have an MV. Super Junior-M debuted in 2008. Super Junior have always been great vocalists. :D I love "Bonamana" because it really show the trend at that time. They didn't use auto tune to compensate for a lack of vocal ability, they used it purely because, as you pointed out, that was the trend for almost every new song in 2009/2010 all over the world. Pretty much every new Kpop song in 2010 had a heavy use of auto tune. If you watch a live performance of "Bonamana" from 2010 you will hear the song with far less auto tune and you will be able to hear that they were great singers even back then. Super Junior debuted in 2005, so in 2010 they were known as seasoned performers. At this point, they had been training as vocalists for more than 5 years, and many of the members were trainees for as much as 7 years before debut. "Bonamana" is just a different style of song, it isn't as much of a vocal centered song like some of their other songs. As you know, SM is known for the fact that they choose trainees for their vocal and dance abilities and they have a heavy emphasis on training their artists to be some of the best vocalists in the industry, regardless of what their main role is in the group. So ALL of SM's artists are top vocalists, even the rappers. None of SM's rappers were chosen for their rap skills, they all started out as vocalists and/or dancers and the trainees with the right vocal tone and talent for rap, are then trained as rappers as well. Fun fact: The dance move in "Bonamana" where they lean forward and swing their arm has been nicknamed the bowling dance because the move looks like the stance a bowler takes as they throw the ball down the lane. :D

"Twin's (Knock Out)" was Super Junior's debut song and it came out in 2005. This was when SuJu was only a 12 member group. Kyuhyun, who will become one of Super Junior's main vocalists and the youngest member of the group, I don't think was even a member of the company yet. Kyuhyun didn't debut until 6 months after this, and he only trained for about 3 months before he became a member at age 17. (That's how talented SJ vocalists are. :D) If you watch a color coded lyric video with all the members' pictures, you will be able to see their names with their faces and you might be able to pick out who each of them are a little better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5_XdKxjh9J0eZo (This lyric video happens to put their pictures in order by the members ages :D) If you look up the English translation of the lyrics you will see why they used fire in this MV. The images of fire go along with what the song is talking about. SuJu is the group that really launched Kpop into mainstream popularity globally, but that wasn't until about 2009 with their song "Sorry Sorry." The MV for "Twins (Knock Out)" and choreography was actually groundbreaking and ahead of its time way back in 2005. Like you mentioned, remember what western MVs looked like in the '90s and early 2000s, especially boy band videos -- they were very similar to this. Back then, the industry was so much different: they didn't have budgets, they had even more strict beauty standards and basically the industry itself was still struggling to make a name for itself globally. You may notice that they only showcased the main visuals in most of these early videos, but that was the industry's standard practice back then. Plus, the internet, digital media, and search engine platforms were not what they are today. If you watch some of their more recent interviews, members often share stories about how they struggled and competed to have more screen time, and everyday they worried that it would be their last in the group and that they would be cut. Super Junior originally were a 13 member group + 2 Super Junior-M members, so in these older videos you will see 12/13 members. Because Super Junior has so many members, it's difficult to give equal screen time to each of the members when the group is so large. (If they gave everyone equal screen time the song would end up being 7-13 minutes long and that's too long for most listeners attention spans, LOL.) Plus, each member has their own unique role within the group, so sometimes that means certain members have a larger part then others. Also, one thing you should keep in mind with these early SuJu songs, is that Super Junior wasn't originally supposed to be a permanent group, and the group was made up of members who were being trained in all aspects of the entertainment industry. So, SM's original goal for the group was to allow the members to gain more experience in the industry while they learned to be TV hosts, actors, models, comedians, etc. That's why in their first few songs some of the members roles are smaller. SM wasn't necessarily expecting them to continue as a member of this group in particular. The plan was to have the members graduate to other groups and other careers within the entertainment industry after a few months. It was SuJu's fans that saw the potential in the group as a whole and put a stop to SM's plan. When SuJu debuted the oldest members, Leeteuk and Heechul were about 22 and the youngest Ryeowook and Kibum were about 18. The very first person you see in the opening of this MV is Hangeng, who is Super Junior's first Chinese member and the very first non-Korean Kpop star. The one with the solo break dance in the opening is Eunhyuk, SuJu's main dancer and main rapper. However, the first person who sings in the MV and song is Siwon, who is the actor and visual of the group. The one that says "Got to get you out of my life ..." is Yesung one of SuJu's vocal powerhouses. And, the long hair redhead is Heechul. "Twins (Knock Out)" is actually one of SuJu's least popular songs, and many people even forget it exists unless they are dedicated E.L.Fs.

Really enjoyed your reactions, and the truth, it is so hard to find reactors reacting and appreciating Suju, as they are from the 2nd gen group. They may not be in their golden era anymore, but I am so proud as an ELF, to see them strive among the younger gen groups and still killing everything they released. Thank you for doing reactions to SJ. Looking forward to more reactions to them.

In live versions of Sorry Sorry Answer, those insane vocal lines are all done by Yesung (the one with the rasp), Ryeowook (the operatic voice in Burn the Floor), and Kyuhyun. Generally speaking, if there's a big vocal moment in a SuJu song, it's being done by one of those three. The big exception is Twins where some of it is also done by Sungmin, partly because Kyuhyun hadn't joined yet. Even later on when different members were in the military, one of those three was always still active, like in Mamacita where Yesung isn't there.

Both SuJu and EXO easily have the strongest trio of main vocalists in the industry. They really build them differently back in those days 😉 One of my fav SuJu songs is This Is Love - I love the simple yet elegant choreography (hint - it involves mike stands) and the boys looked super suave
