Be careful what you wish for, the Soviet army perished in 39 because it’s wet and boggy. all that’s green is not grass, The Russian’s never tried this way again and even agreed to share equipment with Finland to maintain their neutrality. We had Finns in the UN peacekeeping force. They could drink you to oblivion, and I would not contemplate operating offensively intheir homeland. They’re infantry have communications hardwired throughout the country, literally in bushes and trees. They learned never to get cut off. Russia might sabre rattle there, but they know that’s the hardest route

Orbx made all of my favrouite scenery for FSX. And this one looks amazing. One thing I've noticed about all DCS maps however is there's something about the buildings that just make them appear artificial and out of place. Something about the colours. Too bight and flat I think. They just don't look like they belong on the terrain.

Also even with visibility range set to extreme, they don't even appear until about 35 miles away which sucks when using the TGP

I wish every DCS release wasnt sponsored or a shill video. I bought South Atlantic and it was quiet frankly terrible. I was going to buy this on launch but I'm going to hold back after seeing this.

To be fair to the SA map it was supposed to focus on the Falklands and suffered from scope creep. The Falklands themselves were very good.

Exactly the same for me. SA map was a rip, wish I could get my money back on that one. Will hold off on Kola also for a while as see how that goes. Lesson learnt.

Not buying this one, at the moment, maybe in the future on a sale. Too many other goodies, and space on discs will soon become a problem. I hope it sells well, Orbx are excellent and those that fancy the area should have a blast. I was at Bardufoss for some winter exercises in the late 80's. It's closed now, but a lovely area.

Be aware, apparently theyre going to raise the price as they add content, which is weird for dcs. So buying later could cost more

The mountains look too boring and too round. There are not enough spikes for me. Also, the textures deserve some autogenerated variability and noise, it is weird that miles and miles of grass and dirt have the same shade. BTW How many variants of trees have you counted? All the trees look the same.

@@andrefreeman7025 there's a difference between cinematic trailers and gameplay footage. A lot of EDs excellent footage was shot from high altitude, and likely on a build I didn't have access to in time to revamp my video.

I just flew hours in new map and then partially same route in msfs2020. The new Kola map is better when it comes to the topography. Currently it lacks buildings on some areas but that will change ass time passes.

Looks better than in F-19 Stealth Fighter. Speaking of which, an F-117 would be fun to fly in a 1980's Nato vs Warsaw Pact campaign on this map.

Purchased and downloading and really hoping that the terrain mesh has been upgraded in detail........all of the previous maps suffer from a laughably low res terrain mesh, which really spoils the experience....I want some nice sharp mountains and definition on the terrain....all the city detail and nice textures dont mean much if the terrain is not detailed.......

The problem is, the sharper mountains are, the more polygons they require to render (like 4x) so its way more load on ur gpu.

@@brandonchappell1535 Yes, and that is a big problem in DCS. 600GB on SSD for only one game is a big problem also. maybe you need 2TB on SSD for better polygons and textures.

Thanks for that brandobchappel1325, Us Scots love to save money. But the Karelia front became the grave of the Soviet invaders in 39 because it is swampy and desolate. I recall the pictures in “War Weekly, 2d at that time” of the frozen soldiers….a bit too desolate for me. There is literally no pace to put down that is not big.

@@peteypyotr8158 In reality, he mentioned the parameter he sets for creating his servers (PVP). In order for a player to get something out of joining his server, he uses a certain range around airfields of 12 min to a hot zone in a A10c. He found that to work for his community and explained that for now, the map doesn't provide enough airfields to create "Enigma server" style missions on this map. He gave (in his own video) his POV as a server/mission builder.

This looks like another South Atlantic failure. Hopefully they can upgrade the terrain textures. This would pass in MSFS with the better clouds and weather however this just looks quite bad in DCS

It's not tree simulator remember. Since the build I showcased, they have done some tweaks, but there are other reasons for big trees I can't go into...

@@Pricklyhedgehog72 Yes. But its not map simulator also. We still need as much accurate map as we can, along with objects on it. Trees are to heavy on the system, so they make them big. Less poly combined. Thats why I fly on sand maps.

Sorry, just because it's green, doesn't mean it's interesting. The price point, and they alluded to it going up as it gets bigger, makes me about zero interested in this region. I don't really get why people think this is going to be that great. Orbx has done great work in FSX/P3D, and from what I have seen this is not even on par with with their Pacific Northwest scenery for FSX. So this will be a hard pass until it goes on sale at some point in the future.
