@@sp33ctrumoh it likely burned pretty good. As adults we know you can put out a flame with our fingers but we do it very quickly. Even before pain gets registered we are pulling our fingers apart. Babies don't have that yet so they hold on until they register the pain and figure out in a panic how to release their fingers. It happens with hot stove's too. kids pick up on parents emotions to regulate. they don't know what meaning to assign to something, like the girl holding the snake. she wasn't afraid of it, she had no emotional reference for it, so she just picked it up, like she would a stick. but when her mom saw it, she got scared and the girl picked up on the mom's emotions connected to the snake and instantly gave it meaning snake=scary/bad. hence the sudden reaction of fear in her. kids will do this type of learning up until the age of 7-8. especially with mom. this is why babies are not scared of anything, they just don't have experience/knowledge about something. they are completely in tune with their mom and dad. what mom feels, baby feels, even if the mom is not showing it, because adults control and supress their emotional reactions. the emotions are still their and small kids and animals can feel them.

The clip at 0:15 is super relatable. A long time ago when I was like 6 years old I was at Gatorland in Florida. I got picked from the audience to come down to the center pit which was a raised platform with a moat around it full of alligators. The host alligator guy told me that we were going to jump in the water and catch a gator together and he told me the plan. I was a little concerned, but I trusted this professional. Then he said 3, 2, 1 ... and I felt the rush and it was go time and time for me to act. I was a brave kid and I thought that we could do it, so I sprinted at the water and the guy caught me just like this breakdancer. He laughed, the audience laughed, my family laughed afterwards. I realized he used me for a joke, but I thought it was so real in my 6 year old head. Afterwards I realized how dangerous it would be and I could have died if he had not stopped me. I am not sure if that qualifies me as dumb, or just trusting in adults and in myself. Just wanted to share, as this clip brought back those memories so clearly

most people that are mad about babies on planes seem to think that the parents are just bringing their kids on a plane for funsies. like yall know these parents dont wanna be here either right? this was definitely their last resort option like i cant picture parents being like "lets interrupt our tiny child's delicate routine and take them onto a really fast metal tube full of strangers where they will probably experience their ears popping for the first time. that sounds fun."

It's that the parents don't get the kid some Nyquil or activities for the flight and just dgaf if the kid is screaming bored the whole flight. Also that's not what happened in the video. The girl stood on her chair to be nosy, stared at herself on the dude's phone, then started screaming about it. Her parents were still absent though.

@@thedeviouspanda yup. when my mother had to take me on a plane as a baby she would give my sister and I crunchy candy to help pop our ears and gave us UK kids paracetamol to help with the pain pressure and would distract us and made sure we had plenty of exercise so we would sleep for most of it. But most parents I see just let their kids run wild, feed them all sorts of sugar, don't give them any pain relief/coping mechanism for the air pressure changes and just ignore them until they're screaming nonstop and then they'll just tell them off and give them no coping mechanisms.

14:04 I would bet he didn’t hurt himself, he started crying because people freaked out and reacted in a way that should indicate he should be afraid or hurt. At that age kids are so reactionary, and when they fall, they usually stop and look at you before they cry to figure out if they’re supposed to or not. If you freak out, they will cry if you look at them and say you’re OK usually they’ll just be like OK I’m OK and just keep it pushin Edit… well I guess if I had just waited one more second before I paused and wrote this comment, I would’ve seen that this is exactly what it said in the video lmao

When my ~22 month old niece fell in the pool (and her dad reached in immediately and scooped her out) we all cheered, and though she was bewildered, she didn’t cry because we didn’t make her think something awful had happened. She hated getting her head under the water, but that was all. But we moved right on and weren’t screaming and distracted her with some sidewalk chalk and she was fine. Me as a child would’ve been absolutely melting down either way tbh but that little girl is now 21 years old and killing it, fluent in Mandarin and writing for a major magazine, so she’s just generally built different.

I'm not a parent, but I've worked with 3-6 year olds and intend to do that as my full career after I finish my degree. It's so true that a lot of the time, kids just need to figure things out for themselves. They will NOT believe you until you let them do it. Eg Once when I was a kid I insisted I didn't want to go to the beach, didn't want to bring my bathing suit; when we got there, I was like "....I want my bathingsuit." My mom, being smart, had secretly brought it with her because she knew I would change my mind! Or I know a little kid (about 3) who, when you tell her there is "no more" of something she wants (like cookies), she needs to actually go over and see that there are none left. Then she's fine - she just needs to see it for herself lol

That's not true. Britain was in the midst of a mass food shortage, so Walt Disney aided the British government in coming with the idea to release a news article that touted that carrots could help improve eyesight during nighttime. But, in fact, carrots were cheap and plentiful so it was just to get people to start buying carrots. I don't know why you "NEED" Cody to know it's fake though. Seems kinda weird.

Some comedian had a bit about annoying kids on airplanes, something to the effect of "I can guarantee it's 10 times more annoying for the kid's parent than it ever will be for you... the kid is going home with that parent." Pretty much cured any annoyance I've felt about screaming babies in the next row. That said, I can understand the "commercial flights" thing. I was fortunate enough to go two full years flying only charter. Work thing, we were always traveling a large group and it was cheaper/easier to charter flights. The next time I took a commercial flight, did the TSA line, etc., I bumped briefly on that very thought.

That baby with the birthday candle seemed fine until everyone gasped and scared him. He didn’t even react to touching the flame. His reaction was to all the adults overreacting to the situation. When it comes to children you need to wait to react until they do. A kids response depends most of the time on how their parents react to the situation. Most of the time kids won’t even acknowledge it if the parents don’t. Give them a second to see if they are really hurt before freaking out. Majority of the time you are just scaring them.

About the kids crying in the plane/public transport. No one actually hates THE KID for acting this way , but the parents that don't do anything about it and haven't taught their kids not to be loud in a confined public space. Babies don't count you can't really do anything about that , if they cry , they cry. But a 7yo throwing a tantrum in the plane isn't ok.. If I ever did this as a kid I would have been pronounced dead the second we arrive wherever destination the plane was heading
