It is the best Biryani FOR YOU. Not "hands down". Everyone has their own taste. I find Hyderabadi Biryani to be disgusting (not absolutely but because of the mismatch between the name Biryani and what it actually is, Pudina-rice with meat), but there are scores of people who think Hyderabd Biryani is the best. Same goes for different people. For some people, Old Delhi Biryani is the ONLY BIRYANI (meaning everything else is adultrated Biryani). It is all about choices. The correct thing to say is "I like Kolkata Biryani the best", rather than "Kolkata Biryana is the best".

@@bhojjadamotabanda geez, you dont have to teach me semantics. I know what I am talking about. I have had all sorts of biryani. In fact, I have been eating biryani since I was little and unlike most hindus who rarely have biryani or only when eating out or on special occassions, biryani is regularly cooked at my home and therefore I can understand the subtleties and nuances of a biryani's flavour profile and taste. Based on all of this, I can say authoritatively that kolkata biryani is hands down, yes hands down, the best biryani.

My favourite biryanis in no specific order - Lucknowi Birynai, Kolkata Biryani, Ambur biryani, Hyderabad biryani, Andhra biryani, Dindigul biryani, Donne biryani, Thalassery biryani, Malabari biryani, Bohri biryani, Bombay lucky biryani. I have heard there are super biryanis in Bhopal, which I have to try. Also love mutton yakhni pulao. I have also had Yemeni Mandi which is ike a biryani, Arabic biryani, white biryani from Gulshan-e-Iran Mumbai, roast beef biryani at Rehmat kozhikode biryani. I love most biryanis as each biryani is quite unique and as a dish it's my favourite dish hands down. Drooling watching India biryani which I have had for several years whenever I am in Kolkata. Next plan is to head to Bangladesh and try their biryanis, esp their beef biryanis.
