Kolkata, West Bengal Food & Travel EP 1 | Food Heaven

For the first time on any video title i have used the word Food Heaven, Kolkata food deserves this title. We spent more than 8 days in Kolkata, it was so much of fun exploring food and sightseeing.
There is so much special about Kolkata food that if you travel to this part of the country, you will surely fall in love with the West Bengal Cuisine.
Following are the details of the places visited by us during our Kolkata food and travel journey, Day 1 , Episode 1.
Deshbandhu: We enjoyed our breakfast at this food joint, this is a old restaurant, cooks Luchi in desi ghee.

Jorasanko Thakur Badi: We went to this place , ancestral house of Gurudev Shri Rabindranath Tagore. I spent about 3 hours there and after that also felt that i should come back again and read more about the famous poet, who has done lot of proud to the Nation.
Location: You put Jorasanko ThakurBari on Google maps you will get to see the location.
He was the first non European to be awarded the Nobel prize for his work on Literature. More you read about his work, more of it you would want to know and learn.
Koshe Kosha: This is a popular non veg food restaurant, though not old but i was told by many locals that they are famous for mutton based non veg food preparation called Kosha Mangsho.
I was quite deeply impressed by the taste and preparation style.

Nobin Chandra Das: Inventor of Rassogolla, that was mentioned on the board, i spoke about this piece in the video. I got some information about Rassogolla that it was invented in Odisha as it is served in Prasad at Jaganath Puri temple since ages.
Sometimes you may have heard me pronouncing o and some times a in the word Rasgulla… In Bengal it is pronounced wtih O letter in between….
Very tasty, if you travel to Kolkata then you must have Rassogolla on day 1...

I was in Kolkata during late 80's to early 90's (Calcutta during those days) as a secondary school student. I could only go close to sweets, nothing else, no street food, no local delicacies, nothing! Given a chance I won't give second thought of re-visiting the City of Joy & trying out the whole of Bengal, it culture, tourism spots & of course it's local lip smacking cusines. A word about Mr. Bali, he is more of a foodie than a travel vlogger.. 🙂👍

Sirji !! Fish kabiraji ka outer coating breadcrumbs ka nehi hai...wo anda hai...Ande ko beat karke ekdam patla patla challo me tel me dala jata jai...waise hi jaise log sev bhujiya banate hai. Calcutta has a different feel to it, this city has such a unique and great character. This is one of the city i am fond of. I watch all movies based on Calcutta, like Kahaani, Raincoat, Parineeta, Byomkesh Bakshi and admire the actors from West Bengal. Superb Vlog!!

I miss Kolkata foods. Its really a paradise for food lovers. I am also a food lover. Its the cheapest place for variety of foods. And after watching your video I got nostalgic about the place again. Revisiting my memory lane. Delhi is also another place for food lovers where you get foods in cheaper prices and excellent choices for foods. Yes you are right Harish ji. Rasagullas are being offered in jagannath temple, puri as prasad from times immemorial. It was mentioned in Madala panji also which is called as an only encyclopedia related to temple's rituals. But bengalis marketed rasagulla well and most of the people have a perception that rasagulla was invented in west bengal.

For kachuri , torkari . Kachuri fried in ghee is not authentic Bengali kachuri, if u really want to taste good kachuri torkari, try under Sealdah flyover, only condition is u shouldnt care much about hygiene.

I suggest Harish Ji make another tour to Kolkata, and head towards other districts, towards rural and semi urban bengal. You will enjoy and come to know about rich heritage, diversity of culture, foods of huge variety, both veg and non veg. in every districts.. Say, for example, in few districts, people use kolapata (banana leaves) for serving foods, few districts use sal (Shorea robusta) pata, few use matir thala (earthenware). There are so many vareity of rice found here, and from posto, dal bori, dhoka dalna, lau chingri, to boroli fish (Barilius barila) in north bengal, bengal is a heaven for food safari.

No, not directly he has written the National anthem of sri lanka But national anthem of srilanka is almost Sinhalese translation of his poem "CHITTO JETHA VOY SHUNNO" (WHERE THE MIND IS WITHOUT FEAR).
