In the Kottayam route, the continuous stations you mentioned are major municipalities. So stops are alloted at each of them due to political reasons. Thiruvalla is the only station in the entire Pathanamthitta district, so a stop is alloted there for almost all expresses. Chengannur is the most accessible to Sabarimala pilgrims, so a stop there as well. There are enough passengers for every stop in the route. So once allotted, it is tough to cancel because there would be a big resistance from passenger unions and all. That is why there are a lot of stops in the Kayamkulam- Kottayam - Ernakulam stretch.

Yesterday I travelled from Mangalore to Chennai by Mangalore Chennai superfast express. From Kasargod to Kozhikode the sleeper coaches were filled with too much unreserved crowd. In the gang path also lot of people were standing. Even TTE or RPF didn't care about that. It looks like its happening regularly in that train.

I travelled on this train from katpadi to coiambatore. I planned to go on the coiambatore intercity superfast, but i missed that train. Then i boarded this train. This train was so fast it overtake the cbe intercity at bommidi😈. Also eventhough this train is empty now, it would be full during sabarimala season
