Henry Therlow was on a podcast recently and talked about the process. Alot of it was headcanon from Henry but the things he gave that were certain was that it’s usually up to the animaton director for an episode as to whether or not they want to have auras, what colors to use, and how much auras they’ll have Its literally nothing to do with like lore or indicators unless its what the specific director for that episode wants it to be, thats why its not consistent

From what I'm noticing, everything up until Luffy stood up was real, the hallucinations started when they "clashed" at the end. I'm saying this because of how Kaido was jumping in his imagination but was actually standing in what seems to be the same position he was when he clobbered Luffy on the ground. The "clash" is what sent Luffy flying off the island, thus the seemingly anti climactic end of the last brawl, it ended just as it begun. But it's just speculation.

Man, this fight and Whitebeard's assault on Marineford along with Big Mom vs Kidd and Law really shows you how freakishly tanky you gotta be to be a Yonko. Whitebeard took a SHIT ton of damage before dying on his damn feet with his back unscathed. Kaido legit fought continuously against the strongest fighters on Onigashima the entire time straight through and it took a punch the size of the Bajrang Gun to finally put him down for good. Big Mom also took a absolute SHIT TON of damage at the hands of Law and Kidd and was still ok till she fell with the bombs and even then both her and Kaido fell into lava and we're still here many chapters later with no update still wondering if they're both alive, that just shows how tanky we believe them to already be. And of course Luffy, I don't know how many characters you could line up that could take as many full strength blows from Kaido, Boro Breaths, along with his fights all the way leading up to and through to raid up to the roof. Luffy might have the fruit with the name of a god but I think it just goes to show you basically have to be a god to be a real Yonko, we all know Buggy doesn't count lol.
