Kolrosing is an old traditional technique of decorating wood. I cut the lines with the tip of a knife, fill in with finely ground coffee and seal with food grade linseed oil. I use this technique to decorate the spoons I make. Relaxing video of traditional woodworking skills. Green woodworking craftsmanship. In this video I show a whole process of kolrosing a letter monogram on an eating soon I carved earlier. Wood art.

@@joebananski654 Glad you like the videos. People get too fixated on the tools. I never felt the need to upgrade to a specialized kolrosing knife and pretty much all I saw is not something that wood be good for my kolrosing 🙂

Very nicely Done. Love the shape of the spoon. And a great idea with the use of the marble for burnishing. Keep up the great work. Tom B. in ND

beautiful spoon, thanks for sharing your techniques. Accessible knife, coffee grounds and a marble, love it. I’m going to give it a try on a wood box I’m making Cheers!

Glad you liked it. Go for it. Start with straight lines designs, they are easier to start with. You can also practice on some scrap pieces of wood to get a hang of it. Be free to check out my other kolrosing videos. Have fun 👍🙂

Question/request... Are there any tricks/tips to doing the rounded section of a letter like D? for example I try to do a small D and the year to 'sign' my spoons but some times the round of the D seems 'fuzzy' from the changing grain? Loving your videos! my wife asks why it only takes you a few minutes to do a spoon when it takes me an hour, or so!! Regards, Dane

For rounded parts I usually do more of stabbing than dragging the knife, like opening a tin can. See some of my other kolrosing videos. Speed comes with repetition. I do many of these each week 🙂 Glad you like the videos.

@@danesspoons thanks... I have used #8 or #9 carving gouges, but thought that was cheating

Dane, do you think a nicely polished semi-precious stone would work as well as a marble and might it be easier to hold in your hand?
@danesspoons
@danesspoons 8 ай бұрын
Probably. Anything hard and smooth works. Burnishing is optional. If you want a bit smoother finish. I just lightly burnish for a few seconds. You can do without it, I sometimes don't do it 🙂
