Česká republika moc filmů nenatočí. Doufejme, že brzy přibudou další a budou přivedeni na svět. Příštím Oscarem pro český film může být nejlepší celovečerní dokumentární film za dokument o bezpečnosti silničního provozu

I had this dvd in my Netflix queue forever and kept putting other films in front of it because I thought it might be fluff. My bad! It is a wonderfully and naturally charming film. Unforced, wonderfully acted and expertly directed. And the score is magnificent. Genuinely touching. Easy smiles all around.

I am so happy Andrei Chalimon (Kolya) got to be there. He won an Oscar of his own in Czechoslovakia. Czech Lion Award, I think it's called or something like that.

at least someone was appreciated because I feel that there are quality films in Europe as well and not only in America and great actors for example, we also have Slovak good ones, I'm not saying that they are all, but there are also good ones like Zuzana Mauréry

It is a beautiful movie. If you know the historical context, it's even better but I think the reason it won is that it is just a beautiful, touching story that is quite universal despite the setting of it.

If you look into her body language closely, you'd see that Kristin Scott Thomas shares your sentiments. (Seriously?!? Jack Valenti again?!? That's one good thing about him being dead now. We won't have to see his stupid mug at the Oscars again.)
