@@FreedomAnderson good point. My understanding is that the venom causes profuse bleeding but the bacteria causes the wound to fester. I've heard similar explanations for why the bite of constrictor snakes never heal. Their venom is considered harmless though.

@@QlueDuPlessis - Komodo Dragons have an anticoagulant in their venom and saliva, much like Constrictor Snakes. An anticoagulent is not the same as venom. The excess bleeding actually causes bacteria to be bled out, resulting in a low chance of infection. As a Herpetologist I've been bitten by Snakes. The bites heal within a day or two.

Another point about Komodo dragons: Those who live in Komodo dragon territory actually have to dig graves deeper than 6ft or use cremation. Because if they don’t. Komodo dragons will be able to smell the dead body and *dig up the graves* for their own consumption.

Komodo dragons producing venom wasn’t a known thing until super recently(2009)! Before that we thought their bites were so toxic from bacteria build up due to their diet being so nasty. There, an awesome Komodo fact you missed.

Reminds me of that Anaconda movie, about giant anacondas, where one guy winds up getting paralyzed from some insect bite, and has to watch a huge anaconda lower itself from the ceiling, swallow him whole, and then just as another character notices him being eaten their reaction is to set the hut on fire and leave it. The guy is *still trapped, paralyzed, inside the giant snake and being simultaneously digested and cooked*. That's HORRIFYING.

I actually had a rat snake in our chicken coop with an egg stuck in its mouth. Due to this I confidently picked the snake up as how could it bite me. It then proceeded to regurgitate the whole egg and it landed in the grass unharmed. I was scared shitless because it forced the egg through my hand and it now had the ability to retaliate. Very cool. The Megalania is a relatively recently extinct (45000 years) of giant reptile with venomous bite living in Australia (of course it lived in Australia...). Estimates of length range from 3.5 to 7 m, with recent estimates around 5.5 m. They were close relatives to modern Komodo Dragons.

I find it funny komodo dragons are always portrayed as terrifying/relentless because they don't straight up kill their prey, but rather just keep following it until it finally falls over dead or is so weakened it's an easy kill. People seem to forget this particular hunting method (sans venom and bacteria) is exactly why ancient humans were such successful hunters.

Ang Abrams actually it has been debunked by scientists who study Komodos and say that they actually try to kill the animal outright at the moment instead of “ biting it and waiting for it to die “ as what had been portrayed in documentaries , like once you have it in your mouth like why let it go ? So that is the reason why they have been specially adapted to grabbing on to prey with their jaws. If you wanna see I can send you videos of Komodos killing buffalos and deer outright instead of “ the bite and run method “ theirs even a article talking about how Komodos have killed full grown male boats by just grabbing their necks. In my opineon the worst way to go is being put in a runing wood chipper alive. Fun komodo dragon fact. Thier was once a relative of the komodo dragon called the megalenia which was twice the size and twice as venomuse, it was also the only predator on australia at the time it existed.

A Komodo Dragon would eat off yoghurt, the tub it's in, the spoon, the table it's on, the person who put it there and the company that made it and be hungry three minutes later
