Octopuses are like really smart water cats that have eight legs.

It depends on the size of their beak. The beak is the only hard part of an octopus. They are also quite aware of this limitation and they know exactly how big their beak is. If they come across a hole too small for their beak, they won't even try to go through it. So it depends on the size of an octopus. The smaller the beak, the smaller hole they can fit through. An octopuses intelligence is even crazier when you consider what they evolved from. Humans evolved from a common primate ancestor between us and Chimps. Even further back was a common ancestor among all primates. Even still further back was a common ancestor between all mammals. So we have quite the pedigree of above average intelligence. Octopuses as well as all other cephalopods evolved from clams. Dumb, brainless clams (they have two ganglia but no centralized brain).... They also have a ganglia, which is like a small brain, at the base of each tentacle. As well as evolve an entire brain from scratch, they also evolved a complete complex eye from scratch.

One of the things I think about a lot is, how quickly would octopi evolve if they didn't die after having kids. Octopi can learn very quickly, but unfortunately their short life span and the fact they grow up alone without parents, holds them back a LOT. So if they stopped dying after giving birth, or at least lived in communities, they could be a lot smarter. There is one bay where the number of octopi recently increased a lot so the small octopi can actually observe older ones and they learn everything a lot quicker than average octopus. who knows what will be in that bay in hundred years.

Human brains consume 1/3 of our daily energy usage, a giant octopus would have to be consuming approximately it's bodyweight in food each day to handle a brain comparable in scale to that of a normal octopus and maintain any semblance of thermoregulation, maneuverability, and strength. That would be a small whale per day for something the size of a giant squid...

I read a story once where a keeper at an aquarium gave it its food it was shrimp. When the keeper walked away the octopus got out of tank, crawled to the keepers desk and threw two pieces of shrimp at the keeper because those pieces of shrimp were bad. Also I saw I video of two people kayaking and feeding the feels fish and when they ran out a seal there an octopus at one of them

He and divers around him came to know it so sometimes the octopus would come out and play. The discussion of sea creatures taking over reminds me of a book I once read. It is by the German author Franz Schätzing and I think the English title is "the swarm". In short, it is horrifying. And if anyone who actually speaks German would like some nightmares, the audiobook is brilliantly made too.

While this may all be quite frightening, an octopus takeover is unlikely, as they are not very social and have short lifespans. A coordinated octopus attack is not something you'd have to worry about.

There was an octopus in a tank that hated a light so it squirted water at the light to short it out. The staff changed the light as often as they could, but the next day the light was broken again. They eventually put up a camera to see what was going on. After they saw the footage they started to turn the light off when they went home, and the light never broke again.

I have an actual octopus horror story from a friend. So this friend that was in the military at the time , was with 2 mates ( also from the military )on an island patrolling or something and they decided to go fishing at night with flashlights ( which is illegal cuz fish are like rabbits and they stare at the light ) , so they waited on the dark , put their scuba suits on, took their harpoon guns and went diving . They found at the depth of 3m this huge octopus , it had like mug girth tentacles ( which is weird to find such a huge octopus as that at the depth of 3m). Long story short one of the guys was a genius , gave his gun to his mates , took out his knife and went in for the kill and the octopus grabbed his hand , crawled up his shoulders and arms and took control of his arms and started cutting his belly with the stomach , lucky it only cut the suit and did no actual damage to him.
