Another great review Mike - I do have a bit of lust for Komplete but I can't really justify the cost as to get the best out of it I think the Ultimate would be the one to go for. As I bought IK Studio Max (on an upgrade path from one of their effects during their previous sale) I'm still working through those sounds so couldn't handle several thousands more! What most appeals to me about Komplete is Kontakt and the many different libraries you can get for it but for now I'll have to stick with what I've got. Might also be worth mentioning the free Komplete Start that people can download to get a feel of the Komplete / Kontakt environment before they upgrade to on of the paid versions.

Great discussion, Mike. Some nice examples there! Having purchased K 9 Ultimate "Crossgrade" at a slightly discounted full price back when it first released, I have never regretted it. I can't think of any situation where one would ever purchase ALL of the products in a given bundle *individually*, so the "savings" relative to that total price is a little unrealistic (this same logic applies to EastWest's ComposerCloud, BTW). However, even if one were to buy a significant collection of products aimed at a given genre of music, the price of one of these bundles would most likely be lower. ALSO NOTE that if one is concerned about download bandwidth or data caps (I know I am), the Product Box version, where one is sent an external HDD containing ALL products in a bundle, is the same price as the download version, and shipping is free. This is how I purchased K9U and I'd highly recommend it. The big plus as you mentioned is that once you own a given release, the cost of subsequent releases is very steeply discounted, and this cost can be spread out, interest-free, over a 6-mo. payment schedule via PayPal. Currently, my "offer" at N-I for the K 13 Ultimate package is $399 because I own K9U. That's a deal I plan to take advantage of just as soon as I've finished building a computer that will make full use of its potential (hopefully by year's end), as my current system doesn't have the horsepower to justify adding the storage I'd need.

Your overview also highlighted the weakness of collections which is you get a lot of stuff you're not interested in as well as all the stuff you do want. How much time is wasted just sampling everything to weed through the choices?

Very nice video! Small correction: Replika XT is only in Ultimate and CE, on the other lower editions Replika (not XT) is bundled. I'd add a honorable mentions also for the Play Series (the new v2 are very cool in my opinion) and the mighty Battery. I have bought Komplete 12 regular almost two years ago and I still have to explore it fully. I think I'll wait for the next update sale to get Komplete 13 for around 100$ (the current update price is 200$). Ultimate is only appealing for cinematic stuff but honestly for that stuff I think that third party libraries are better (Spitfire, Heavocity and so on). Agree on RickenBacker bass, it's awesome.

I purchased Kontakt 13 with al large collection of Libraries. I do like the product. The implementation of downloads and installation are another matter. Native Instruments has four categories of products, Applications, Libraries, Expansions and VST's. Native Access, the application that is used to manage products, throws all of those categories into a single basket without describing into which category they fall. In Native Access Preferences you can set the install locations for Applications, Libraries and VST's, but not for Expansions. I found that out after setting Preferences to put Applications on my C: drive and the Libraries and VST's on a data drive. I then discovered that Native Access had installed 70 Gb of Expansions on my C: drive in a non-obvious location. My C: drive was never sized to store vast amounts of sample data and that would be poor computer management in any event. It is possible to move the data after the fact by following the correct procedure but I've had to contact NI support numerous times to sort thing out. I am informed by support that they are working on a Native Access 2 so I hope that will be a better implementation. I will say, however, that Native Access support has been responsive and helpful. They are only having to expend unnecessary manpower on support because of the way Native Access is currently implemented. One other NI related comment. A part of the package I purchased was Massive X. It turns out that app requires a CPU with a particular instruction set. Although my CPU appeared on the list of compatible products it turned out that not all versions of that particular CPU had the required instruction set. Therefore, I cannot use Massive X. I can use Massive. I did complain about the situation to NI and they gave me a discount voucher toward the purchase of another product.

Another very helpful video Mike. I notice that all the new Komplete 13 products require Intel Core i5 or above which would restrict some folk with older systems I guess. I have had Komplete 11 for some time so could up date to 13 (which would suit my requirements) for £169 which is a good price when you consider that a few weeks ago I had an email telling me I could upgrade to Guitar Rig 6 from 5 for £89! I recently purchased Komplete 13 and am impressed by the variety and quality of the offerings. There are aspects of the package that are confusing and required support (which actually was good). Native instruments doesn't make it clear what is an instrument and what is an expansion for an instrument. One major disappointment was the fact that Massive X only works with a select subset of Intel CPU's that have a particular instruction set, which my CPU doesn't have. That fact is not disclosed before purchase. NI did offer a discount on my choice of a product not included in the main package as compensation for the fact that Massive X is unusable (I still can use Massive).

I got already the 12 collectors and now upgraded to the 13 collectors edition. And I really can tell it is worthit. Idk if I would invest 600 bucks for it but while summer sale it is totally worth it. getting the whole quartet alone made already up for that price. But also the symphony essencials you'll get are a complete game changer. I just started to work with machine so rn I don't know how the additional expansions are, but still I can tell you, you should go for it!

I have 13UCE and I forget just how much it comes with! As to why I went with ultimate CE? I had 10 Ultimate previously and the upgrade difference between 13 Ultimate and 13 Ultimate CE was not that much and that got me the full Quartet ,Arkhis and the full symphony collection rather than the essential that comes with Ultimate. The expansions you get are nice but not something I will use. In the end CE give you quite a bit extra for the upgrade money over just Ultimate.

Thanks for video my friend. I have a question that is confusing the tar out of me? I am ordering a new MacbookPro. They have option to upgrade internal SSD drive to 4 TB. My question can you use a single internal SSD drive to install everything (operating system, Ableton, Komplete, Plugins, documents and both audio and video projects? I like the idea of having a simple workflow and use a cloud based service or secondary drive to backup samples and projects. Just wondering now that they have these super fast processors and huge SDD drives if using a secondary drive is necessary. Thanks

Hi Bob. Despite having large and fast drives, I would still recommend a secondary drive. Apart from the ease of reinstallation should your OS get corrupted, its better for the OS to access two drives simultaneously. In my experience, when SSDs fail - that do so more critically. Reinstalling things like Komplete at that point, is quite a task. Its tempting to think this may not happen - but I have had 4 SSDs fail on me in the last 2 years, of various brands, including what are generally regarded as the best - Samsung.

I bought the MacBook Pro m1 max w/4TB SSD. I have all of Komplete 13, Arturia analog lab V, 60+ 3rd party VSTs and plugins, Logic 10.7, UAD plugins, Korg Classic Collection and an extensive sample/loop library of 250gb. In total, I’m using 2.5TB of the 4TB SSD. I do a lot of 4K video in addition to music, and the video files easily occupy 1TB. I love having everything local on my MacBook and the performance of the 4TB SSD is amazing.

Guys get the Komplete 13 standard If you really want orchestral sounds just use Spitfire Labs and Project Sam. You can also get the Spitfire symphony. Just buy Damage 2 for percussion.

Thanks for another well done video! I have no doubt that the quality is worth the price, but for me it is way out of reach. I do have Komplete Start, but it is more of a demo than anything else. It is good for quite some presets though, so I can only recommend installing it, as it is free.

I came aboard the NI train early in 2016; I was given K10EDU as part of a student bundle to get crackin’ right outta the gate with sounds and effects. I built up a few extras through NI’s seasonal promotions (free stuff and select Expansions and Play Series releases) but never saw the value in upgrading each time they released the new Komplete (even when I actually had the loot). So last year, I saw the value and upgraded to 13U. Let’s just say Jesus loves me… (lol) …but knowing 14 could come out around Black Friday, I might go the ala carte route again. NI is solid, no doubt, but just like with Waves, if it ain’t worth the value to upgrade, or the update ain’t gonna dramatically affect what you already do, I’m perfectly content to wait until it is for me.

It says that the ultimate edition has 1.1gb of sounds. If you load that to an external ssd would that have the same response as when you load into your local hard drive?

Definitely yes. I have all my sounds on an external NVMe SSD and even the largest sample instruments load ridiculously quick.

I found Komplete 13 (standard) for $399 USD..I had no other version previous, that's not bad at all. (only bad part, customer support with Native Instruments is abysmal) great tools, great sounds. (note, Have you tried the WAVES plugins? they also have a deal there too.. you can buy the plugins ala carte now, used to be thousands for the entire package.. you own them for life, and if you want you can get the upgrade packages, but the can be like 100 or more per year.. but the ala carte, you own forever..) cheers

I had Kontakt 6 player the free version.. Now I want to buy Kontakt 6 Full..but every where I look it doesn't specifically say what instruments you get when you buy it.. So I'm in Toronto and Kontakt6 cost $519, what instruments are included apart from those instruments that are already free in Komplete start?

If you buy Kontakt on it's own you only get the Konakt Factory library plus 3 Play series instruments. Analogue dreams, Ethreal Earth and Hybrid Keys.

I have komplete start downloaded and it was totally free. The last 3 lacks are deffffinitley out of budget but would the first 200 dollar pack be a massive upgrade

Komplete start isn’t the Full version of Kontakt or Massive so all of the great plugins that are out there won’t work on Kontakt Player so that 100 or 200 is worth it

Select came with my NI controller, but I don’t see much need to upgrade. There’s an awful lot of sampled instruments that I don’t really care about and I’ve already got the synths I want... and their effects don’t seem all that special.

Please I need help and maybe someone who can guide me I installed the upgrade to the Standart version of komplete 13 And I love it the only problem is I have everything installed on my c drive which is full and my d drive is empty which has a tb of space free I installed most of the plugins already and I have no idea how to let the rest be installed on the second drive I copied everything over but it doesn't work and on my fl studio something even worse happened I accidentally had my native access in my plug-in folder and fl studio read everything and now I have the native access data saved as plugins bevor it was 194 now its 281 and the new stuff is just things of native instruments I use a windows laptop and need help I'm so frustrated I deleted the data from native access from every folder of my daw fl studio but it still get shown and my drive is so full my CPU is constantly at 20 whiteout even using a plug-in pls help The things that the support says don't help

In Australian dollars, Komplete UCE is $2,299 and this is regarded as 90% off buying all the components separately. The reason is for the range of articulations of strings and other orchestral instruments that otherwise needs some separate pluggins. But I'm not sure if UCE has what CineSamples has. These can be costly to buy in addition to UCE. Is this the case? Would I still have to buy Cinesamples - if I want the full range of orchestral sounds. It's amazing how many articulations there are - and very different sounds - much more legato and pizzicato. Any fast string of notes in strings, brass etc. is extremely awful to represent via the ordinary 'synth' type of sounds, especially what one gets free with Cubase 10.5. I may be unusual in wanting to span acoustic and orchestral sounds with synth and ethnic and vocoder. UCE has rhythm guitar I find is also essential for an orchestra/dance fusion. The advertisement I see here has a 'box' of some sort, as if it is a hard drive for the 990MB? or GB? Although, at least half of this 'bundle', I may never use, I would not want to be a slave to the Internet to download each program - as needed. One day the Internet may crash, and I dislike using it constantly. I was instructed not to use the same computer for downloading onto a DAW for security reasons. So, the size of programs, and being offered a hard drive with them already available is important. Once upon a time, we came home from a shop with hardware and software, and were independent from the Internet. it was quite disturbing with Adobe Creative Suite to have to pay each year to use it. I'm ill much of the time, and have severe narcolepsy, so I can sleep away much of a year. I'm also interested in Celemony Melodyne 5, and Ovox, on sale finishing today. Is there something I should buy from Waves now? Or will there be another Christmas sale? Thanks for placing the four versions of Komplete 13 at the bottom of the screen. I have cognitive problems, and the visual helps a lot. I get confused when there's several versions of something. The same is with Melodyne 5. I don't fully understand what's missing when don't pay AUS $1000 for the full version.

top nr 5 is already standard in ultimate 10. So they are selling old stuf. I was thinking about updating it to 13 but I need to be sure not to buy software I already have. maybe that is why the upgrade is cheaper then buying it new?

Its quite an interesting choice - I have both! We have to consider that Total Studio Max right now is $249, which is cheaper than Komplete Select (the cheapest version). So in this case Total Studio Max probably has 'more' in it. However, when we get to more expensive versions of Komplete - it just has much more in it - IMHO.

​@@JaeHwang_Jeff_Lee Total Studio Max will give you more depth in a few areas (guitar amp sims in AmpliTube, vintage mix/master effects in T-Racks, sampled classic synth instruments in Syntronik), but it includes almost nothing in a lot of other areas (creative effects, actual synthesizers to name a couple). Also, perhaps it's not fair, but in general I don't think IK's sampled instruments measure up to what Native Instruments does. Komplete, even the standard ($600) version, covers far more ground and is a generally much more useful package. It has Guitar Rig, which is probably enough amp sims for most people; and it has lots of good synths, probably enough for most people. So the only area TS2 really covers well that Komplete does not is that vintage mix/master category. Even at TS2's current heavily discounted price I would never recommend it over Komplete, unless maybe you're strictly a mixing/mastering engineer and all you really want is lots of flavors of compressors and vintage EQs and stuff.

Hopefully someone will see this even though the video is a year old. I'm a guitarist/bassist/songwriter who is looking to possibly get Komplete 13, but I need help with choosing a laptop. I'm not comp savvy, so I don't need the best thing out there, but I'd also like to get something that will not be obsolete in a year or 2. Any suggestions? Ideally, I don't get a Mac and I keep the price under $1500, but I do have a little wiggle room.

Be careful to avoid the cheap ones that only have 4gb RAM! No good for music production. I would go for something with 16gb RAM, and an i7 processor.

Well I don't know.... Got Studio One 5 and for $15 a month you get the Pro version with all the plugins and sound library...And every updates and new releases... And that is a lot of them. Now sound wise I will assume that they are pretty close in quality...
