How does a conductor choose a piece for a competition? Are there mandated or compulsory selections? Is it totally free choice? Are there guidelines; don't conduct Ride Of The Valkurie because its been done a million times? Can Star Wars be used?

I believe there’s a set number of composers to choose from in each round, and from there the conductors have some freedom in choosing which piece they want to conduct. I believe Nielsen was mandatory in a few rounds.
