The general expectation is that with this extremely capable and versatile composer-conductor (Ms. Miho Hazama) in charge the DR Big Band will, ultimately, return to its former position as Europe’s leading jazz ensemble. Having heard them yesterday (November 23rd ― when they premiered three new works by Ms. Hazama) I must say I consider this hope justified.

PS: Small wonder band members demonstrated unfeigned affection for their new chief conductor when receiving her at the Copenhagen Airport ― cf. this video clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnesqaOvaKeXebM

@@niklunoe Extremely likeable welcome! They really seemed to be looking forward working with her. I finished by discovering this gem: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZnCgH95ht6fhKc which made me rotfl. I'll definitively keep an eye on the BD BB.

Great stuff. Wonderful band and interesting composition. Great to "meet" you today on the Jazz Auditorium Masterclass with Eric, Gordon and Maria.

Right you are! I just watched that same masterclass, and had to learn more about Miho. I'm delighted to find another young, interesting composer continuing the jazz tradition.

This 7/8 rhythm pattern is very specific to Turkish Black Sea region and clearly presented within Horon style. Some musical motifs also match that style. I would like to know if Ms. Hazama had a research on Turkish folk music before composing Tydeus.

No, she didn´t..it is a 7/8 which is used all over the world for decades

I feel a bit sorry that no one (musicians) almost see / count on her conducting...what was the meaning of her standing there ?
@GreenLarsen5 жыл бұрын
main part of the "real" conducting happends before the event, during the practice where the conductor can explain how he/she want the parts to be played.

It's a bit like the captain of a football team. The role is not very important during matches but it's very important during practice and for team cohesion.
@cihanatilnamli4 жыл бұрын
I think that she is not best in on-stage conducting. We may not know the backstage or practicings. She rather holds a "composer" title.
@geringergasse23 жыл бұрын
Obviously you have never been a musician. We seldomly look directly at a conductor but we see them out of the corner of the eye. Besides that the large part of a conductor's work is rehearsing so during a performance a conductor's signing is just a support and reminder of that which has been worked out before.

the drummer plays a little sloppy, especially the last modulate section.
