The reason you fight Scorpion at the end of Konquest is because originally he was supposed to be the "real" chosen of the elder gods. It carries over from his ending in Deadly Alliance where he was thrown into a soulnado and his ending in this game where it turns out he woke up in the realm of the elder gods and they appointed him their champion. It's also the reason why Monster has Scorpion's fighting style when you fight him, because originally it was Scorpion the whole time.

The reason Scorpion is the final fight in Konquest, and tries to stop Shujinko from completing his (Onaga's) quest, Is because Scorpion is the true champion of the elder gods at the time Deception takes place. Also, fun fact. 90% of the voices are done by the same person. Shujinko, Onaga, Damashi, Bo Rai Cho, It's all just done by the sound engineer at midway.

There’s a theory that the Konquest mode was actually never finished (interiors for the Shaolin Temple in Earthrealm were found, despite the game never allowing you to actually enter it.) This could be why Konquest feels so empty, since it’s technically unfinished. Wish we could’ve all seen what it could’ve been at its full potential.

Fun fact: In Mortal Kombat 11’s Krypt mode you play as the “Descendant of Apep”. So even Apep has a bit more importance in the lore, even if it is only a little. Also, Monster, was originally going to be a new look for Scorpion dubbed the “Knight costume”. But they eventually decided the look was too much of a departure for Scorpion and dropped it, but they didn’t want to waste it either so it became “Monster”.

Mortal Kombat Deception is the only MK title I've ever played with any kind of dedication. To that point, I had only really played MK 1 and 2 in the arcade, and hadn't really played any of them since. This having a "story mode" held my interest. I do remember the bullshit challenges now that you reminded me, but they must have had some lasting effects, because I haven't played a Mortal Kombat game since. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Pssss look up SC3 Enhanced Edition. If you have a PC you can experience the glory that was denied to us Westerners along with the base game content. More costumes, bug fixes, balance changes, and more moves. Hwang, Amy, and Li Long received some love and got upgraded to actual characters with more moves instead of being reserved to secret fighters. Also since you have access to create-a-soul those buffs affect them too.

Beautiful video. Deception is also a staple of my chilhood. I remember Sheeva laying down there in that hut with the Netherrealm music playing ominously in the background used to creep me out. This game perfectly encapsulates a dark-comedy. Even thought its not the greatest, the voice acting gives such a wholesome feel for some reason. The music in almost every aspect is phenomenal, from each realm to the character selection screen. You should do similar content for Shaolin Monks if you ever played it before, even if you didnt, i think you'll love it.
