Very nice. Approximately How much sunlight do these coleus plant's require
@Jimswholiestofcoleus11 ай бұрын
Coleus do not need direct sunlight...but they do best with a mixture of Sun & shade....during the growing season the most Sunlight....mixture of direct and indirect bright daylight equals Happy Coleus. Indoor Coleus during Winter need to be placed at the Brightest Southern most facing window....again the more Sun& Daylight the better. I hate to give you concrete numbers like 8, 10 or 12.... Focus on providing the most "Sunlight" Direct or Indirect provided by your Seasonal Zone....but Generally...Coleus Thrive with a few hours of shade especially during Peak Summer Sun. Hope this helped without making it seem like Rocket Science.

@Jimswholiestofcoleus3 ай бұрын
@FrankieFraleyNana I'm in 7b as well. I start my approx 500 Coleus in mid February....Over the years I have experimented and started as early as Late December...but because I grow so many it was difficult as I start them in an indoor greenhouse rack with LED grow lights....by starting then in February....by the time they need to be put into nursery Pots it's close to a safe time for me to move them to my outdoor much roomier greenhouse which has a heater for cooler nights. Also they are more mature plants by then...not Germinations

Some Wizard Rose may grow large leaves. The best way to tell the difference is Wizard Rose will have Lighter Green AND WHITE in the center area...with pink/ red and black. Kong Reds are darker green....No White.... with A Black Center with Red over the Black.

Fishnet Stockings! Just can’t find the plant nor seed in the UK. Will you be selling the seed internationally? Great video, was hoping you’d make one on coleus identification. Thanks for the NPK ratio, as I can’t get Bloom Booster here, but now know what might be similar.👍
@Jimswholiestofcoleus3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lynda....Bloom Booster is just Miracle-Gros version..... Research any brand which has a higher Center Phosphorus # ....like 15-30-15 etc The Nitrogen and Potassium are lower but important for the overall health. As for my Fishhnet Seeds....Im hoping to harvest some. My Ebay listing can ship internationally but expensive....Average cost for a seed shipment to UK or Europe which allow seeds runs about $25. As of now I don't have seeds...but hoping I will .

@Jimswholiestofcoleus3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear. Many reasons could cause ur losses. Mine have always thrived . Perhaps not enough light in Apartment. Too much fertilizer burn. Pots drained??? Too much water?? Or combo of all. Also how long before you potted them. I always unwrap root ball and let sit in 1 inch of water about 30-60 minutes before planting. TRY AGAIN Next season!!

Hey I'm new to plants and just recieved some cuttings of a coleus and I so I grew some roots and then planted in a pot. However I'm finding my leaves seem to be fading. There's a few where the nice purple pink is turning white. Even the green seems to be fading, I have it under a South facing window. Is this because it's getting too much light ??
@Jimswholiestofcoleus2 жыл бұрын
Hi!! Thanks for watching! I hope you've gone thru my list of videos....plenty to reference all aspects in easy practical explanations. Sounds like it could be too much water.... also make sure your pot is well drained. If you suspect its getting too much sun ( I don't think that's the issue btw) move it away from the Sun a bit. But Im thinking too frequent watering. Also don't overfeed.... and use General Purpose plant food...nothing with High Phosphorus which is more for Flowers not Coleus. A WELL DRAINED POT IS ESSENTIAL. HOPE this helps.
@erinjoy56252 жыл бұрын
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus ohhh maybe I fertilized too soon when I potted it. I assumed I needed to keep it damp since it was still pretty fresh roots .... I use an all purpose fertilizer by miracle grow so I'm not sure of that is a good brand or not, I'm still learning. I must have over watered. I do have it Ina. Well draining pot with a well draining soil mix and I added some perlite so my guess it's my watering possibly the fertilizer. I think I'll keep it where it is and see what happens then. Thank you so much for ur response. I have gone through a few videos so far. Just found ur chanel so I'm sure I'll be watching more. Thank you !
@Jimswholiestofcoleus2 жыл бұрын
Excellent!! Glad to have you watching. Yes skip watering a few days. If you lose a few leaves new chutes should emerge. Give it time to recuperate....Coleus don't need alot of fertilizer either....especially young . Once mature and well rooted...you can fertilize every 10 or so days.

The Scarlett Kong are my favorite 😍 Hey Jim I live in Houston, I put my Coleus inside cause when they are outside they wilt because of our high humidity. Would they still be able to grow? When the sun goes down I take them outside an put them in our balcony to get air but they wilt even more…. Helpppp!!! Hugs from TX💙
@Jimswholiestofcoleus3 жыл бұрын
Hi Carmen....Is it the excessive Heat , Sun and Humidity that's causing the wilting. Try a more shady location . They should still recover from wilting after watering. Im thinking its the Heat & sun more than the Humidity.
@Nobodyreallyatall2 жыл бұрын
Usually people do not want to make them bloom early, since the leaves stop growing. I've never heard someone WANTING them to flower unless they were trying to get new hybrid seeds. Maybe they look similar because the bees are cross pollinating.
@Jimswholiestofcoleus2 жыл бұрын
True....Thats basic...the flowers attract POLLINATION..... But I do keep some Coleus separated to collect the seeds and minimize the Cross-pollination.

@Jimswholiestofcoleus3 жыл бұрын
Hi Helen... slow down on fertilizer.... may be getting too much of the first number of the Fertilizer which is Nitrogen. ALSO...they are leggy ...needing more Light...try to increase the amount of Sunlight if possible. Trim the coleus top few inches & leaves to promote fuller growth. Coleus in the wild grow tall...its natural.
