Konica Minolta Accuriopress C3070 Update Review, 500,000 clicks later

An update of my digital printing press. So far so good. There are a few things I would change but other than those this machine is a tank. It would be really interesting for someone to review a Cannon, Kodak, Xerox and Ricoh. Or is either of those companies want to donate a rig to me.
I am happy with this machine so far and think I will be even happier as time goes on and it keeps running like it is. Customers are wanting more color so I am thinking about replacing my monochrome press with another color machine. Time will tell. I'll keep you updated.

I just recently found your Channel and i have to say you are doing a great job. Im working for a printing company here in Austria. We have two Konica MInolta C3070, one of them with almost every extra, except the Banner thing. Also we got two AccurioPress 6136, here we print DIN A5 Brochures (8.27 x 5.83 inches) for the most of the time for the Austrian Railways. For large format printing we got a KIP 7800 and a KIP870 with a KIP Fold (mostly for constructional drawing), for high end quality we use a Epson SureColor SC-P8000. We dont have a lot of problems with C3070, the are really good like you said. I really would love to have such off line binding machines like you do, we only got an BOURG Perfect Bind, but since have the inline Bookbinder in the C3070, we dont use it that often. Curves are under Fiery Color Profiler Suite. Select Edit (note, plug your spectrophotometer into the PC first, it operates as your dongle, identified by serial number range). Pick your profile, click Select. Choose Global Color, then the Output Curves tab. They've added a lot more tools and options to "dumb down" use including the option of simple sliders to vary most aspects of color output. I could spend several hours just experimenting with the different options. Oh, and don't forget Rendering Intent. I only ever use Photographic and Presentation depending on what I want from the output.

@@justaprinter Maybe a few. When last I did a Fiery class thé instructor said he'd never seen anyone finish so quickly. It's only because I supported them since the very first ones. I was never a hardware tech but software, networking, color and solutions, I did it all. Had to learn a few things about hardware just by osmosis. Happy to answer questions if I knów the answer.

I love the IQ on my c3080. It's super helpful for my type of printing and the auto front to back registration is the best. My finisher will also straighten and drop stack larger paper so it may just be the finisher you have (mine also auto purges jams). Keep up the videos. I'm looking forward to the shop/equipment tour.

Shoot, I should have done more research on the stackers. I didn't even ask how much the IQ option costs, just didn't think it would be worth it. I was always happy with the front to back registration. Post some videos about the IQ. I want to learn more.

love my 3070. we installed in Jan of 2020, all the bells and whistles, the 3 tray extra feeder, the IQ which now l know i didnt need , punch for gbc and spiral, Perfect Binder. have had pretty good luck with it,

Fierys are still Windows computers, subject to all the associated problems. On the plus side, you can set them to do all updates automatically during off hours, same with the Windows OS itself. I haven't had occasion to look at the latest Command Workstation, but often you can run an older version (on a separate computer) if it has the curves feature you're missing. Another fun fact is that in addition of sending jobs to any Fiery on the local network you can also load the source Fiery's ICC profile as Output or Simulation ICC of the destination Fiery to match previous output. I was actually amazed at how well this actually works. Oh, and you don't have to download CWS, you can pull the latest version (assuming you have auto updates enabled) right off the Fiery to load on other computers, just brows the the Fiery's native IP address and grab it off the page. Much faster than downloading a big program off the Internet.

Don't know if anybody told you already, but there is a trick on the 2060 to keep the machine on while pulling out the drum tray and I assume it's the same on the 3070. Stick a bit of card into the slot where the door falls in (on the right) and you can keep the press on 👍

I had the same issue with the teeth ripping the lower roller on the imaging unit. Otherwise, the machine is a beast, printing up to 400gsm.

It would depend on how many pages you are printing and how often. I like the 3070, but it might be overkill if you are printing just one small journal.

This machine is very expensive here in Brazil, but I will get there. I spent a little time to get used to term "gsm" when you talking about the weight paper. Here we used "g" just to typing or the whole word "gramas" whe we speaking. This S of gsm is abbreviation of square, isn't? Another one here when we talking about the size we use A4, A3, SA3. It's my understanding that the MGI machines are just really expensive Konica machines. I don't think it would be worth the money to get an MGI, but I have done no research on them.

I just came across your channel when I was researching the Konica Minolta, we are deciding about changing over from a Xerox Versant 80. Any thoughts on which is the better machine for a small commercial printer doing similar work to what you do?

Xerox makes good equipment. If quality is good off of each, just look at the total cost to own either machine and get the cheaper one. I'll bet its Konica.

You need to buy an advanced license for Color Profiler Suite, I have been living without it, but it would be handy sometimes. You can run it in demo mode, just go to apps and then click on color profiler suite.

The c3080 is a nice machine and is always up and running. There are pros to having multiple machines too. Personally, I like having multiple machines just in case something goes bad on one.

I charge by clicks. I have found that digital is cost effective for runs less than 3000 sheets also depending on finishing. I'll have to make a video how I estimate print jobs.

I have a c1070 that they have canceled the maintenance contract on. Ive only had it 7 years so it’s basically brand new. So annoying… enneeway I’m looking at the c4070 to replace and I really can’t see much difference. I get the feels that they are changing the sticker on the front just to sell more boxes. Has anyone found that much of a difference? Has anyone got a Ricoh 5300. I’m looking at that but never owned a Ricoh so hesitant to take on new unknowns…

You are correct, they basically rebrand the same machine. Reason I know is because they use the same internal parts for all machines. I'm with you on the Ricoh, I'd like to give it a try buy I'm now comfortable with Konica.

Can you control the shine? I noticed most digital press will have shine or gloss to dark inked areas even though matte papers are used. What is the max stock weight you can use?

Yes you can control how much gloss the toner makes. In the RIP and also by lowering fuser pressure. I think 350 gsm is max stock weight.
