Love your channel. I ran a printshop from 1987 to 1994 and printed a publication. Repaired and figured out a Pittney Bowes 30 bin Ferris wheel collator. Amazing tech for back then. I just sold my AB Dick 360 because my Konica 951 is amazing. I can push the button and go to bed. However, I am trying to print a simple booklet of 32 pages on letter size and only four sheet will print when I try and use the folding/stitching settings. It works on a straight print.. where I have to fold and staple it manually. I have tried every setting and have 12 books here with all kinds of sideways printing and as I say, four sheets.. not the 8 I need in a 32 page letter folded in half. Pulling my hair out soon trying to find the answer. Using InDesign CC 2022. Also tried making a pdf and printing from Acrobat. Same thing. Using booklet printing. And the Konica printer setting booklet and fold and stitch. It's probably something simple. HELP? I can't find anything online to sort this out.

The printer might not fold and stitch thick paper. Could it be the paper gsm setting on the printer? Try a thinner setting.

We just picked up a used machine and it came with a plockmatic square edge booklet maker. It does the page flip a bit differently and only 35 sheets. It's pretty cool because it will work offline. The page flip is fascinating, never thought to run it with the covers open. :-)

Great value in this vid, My workplace just purchased an SD-510 inline booklet finisher along side Konica's new TU-510 Trimmer unit and this really gave me a good idea as to what I'll be dealing with regarding the SD-510 which looks to be comparable to your SD-506. Thanks

@The_Weissman
@The_Weissman 3 жыл бұрын
Commander Happy, you probably mean they got an SD-513 booklet finisher (the one that can make full-bleed booklets). In combination with the TU-510 trimming unit, the optional internal trimmer for the bookletmaker is not necessary, as the TU-510 takes over the top and bottom slitting. (Not to mention all the other things that it can do.) It's a great combination. Good luck with it!

The 506 will do the face trim inline. Its located on the bottom left side and occurs after its folded.
@The_Weissman
@The_Weissman 3 жыл бұрын
Good video. Some additional info: (1) Konica doesn't make the FS-612 finisher anymore. It's not an option on any of KM's current production machines. (Thank God.) (2) The SD-510 option for the FS-532 can fold and stitch up to 25 sheets *by spec*, but at 20# bond/50# offset, the spec is 20 sheets. (3) Great segment on the SD-506, which is a workhorse, but there is also now an SD-513, which also does face-trim, but there are options for it to do top & bottom slit (to get full-bleed booklets); for squareback (rolls out the spine fold); and for creasing. Think of the SD-513 as the economy version of a Watkiss or Plockmatic. Some additional thoughts: (1) It's important, when talking about bookletmaking, to discuss its impact on productivity. The more a machine "thunks," the fewer finished pieces you'll get out (the print engine has to wait on the bookletmaker to do its thing). (2) It's also important to mention the impact of paper weight (and coated stocks) on the number of sheets it's possible to stitch. Bookletmakers are a careful decision, and any sales or technical conversation should include a discussion of limitations as well as capabilities. Always ask to see detailed specifications or the Customer Expectation Guide.

Cool - But no print to the edge in the inline production. Vi have the Xerox Versant series, and they have the opportunity of trimming all 3 sides and then remove the bleed. Also squarefold option. It’s pritty nice with it all as inline. Just paper in one side and finish booklet out end the other side. But it often takes a lot of time to produce that way - especially if you want a cover with heavier gsm..

I work on most of the konica finishers. The SD-506 works well when it works. The $35,000 dollar price tag scares away a lot of small shops with a limited budget. You may want to mention the SD-513 which does side trimming. It is a bit smaller than the Watkins. Trimming boards are a consumable item with the SD-506, show a video on how to change those sometime.

Of note, the SD-513's on our Accurio c6100 and 6120 are pretty awesome! You can perform inline square folding and 3-sided trimming which comes in handy for customers looking for something that lays flat with bleeds and is bookshelf friendly without going the perfect binding route. My only cons: (1) it performs the top-and-bottom trims before folding or stitching the books, which can lead to a skew or jogging problems on some coated stocks and odd-size books; (2) it definitely slows the machine down; (3) you need to pair it with one of Konica's post-insertion units since it doesn't feature a cover feeder; (4) its creasing function requires a technician to adjust if things skew. It may sound like a bunch of cons, but they honestly don't present too many problems in the day-to-day. Plus, we were spoiled by Plockmatic bookletmakers on a previous machine lol.

Hi Dan, love your channel. Slightly off topic but can I ask you a question about your KM 3070. I use the same model and I have a strange problem. Basically, I only print greeting cards and when I print a design that has a lot of magenta within the design - I get a terrible issue with static sticking sheets together. Now the static does not cause an issue during the printing process but I use a Duplo card cutter creaser (superb machine) to finish my cards and the static causes multiple double feeds during a run. If the design is not 'magenta heavy' then I never have a problem ... weird! Any ideas as I know your are a genious with these machines. Thanks and regards.
@justaprinter
@justaprinter 3 жыл бұрын
That is weird. I am not a genius! LOL. Not sure why it happens with just magenta. maybe try stacking face up instead of face down. So it images the opposite side first? Could also put some anti static tinsel somewhere. If static is a problem I can sometimes resolve it by fanning out the sheets on the cutter table to neutralize the static.

Thank you for showing us the integrated booklet maker on your KM printer. As my experience is with conventional fold, stitch and trim processes, I stand back in horror at these "amalgamed systems"! The sheet path from the end of the printing section into the booklet maker station looks like a real nightmare. It breaks the basic golden rule of the machine processing of paper - "Shortest Sheet Travel". It must be difficult to control and keep accuracy within the collated sets of sheets with all of the changes of direction before stitching and folding. I tip my hat to you sir! I I did work for a company who operated two Duplo collate/stitch/fold systems. The stitching heads each used a cartridge (shaped like a snail shell) which contained a roll/strip of flat lengths of wire. Theses wires were formed into staples, driven through the paper and clenched to form a stitch. What kind of system does your KM use for wire stitching? Thank you again. Stay safe and well.

The mod consists mainly of a replacement guide for the stacking section that now has rollers to reduce static binding.
