​@@goldenhourssyeah me too. Another story about Tsuda Kenjiro is that he was told by the people at the agency, he would never be a successful VA because of his voice. But things worked out as he gets old and that man's voice got even spicier. "Just hearing his voice would make my ears pregnant" a quote I usually heard from his fans (female fans to be specific).

All of them are. Even Kaji Yuuki used to sell bento boxes in the train stations to get by when he is starting. I remember that he said he can't afford to buy the bento he is trying to sell. If you happen to watch the anime Sore ga Seiyuu, it is a norm that a lot them needs a side gig cause landing a role is very rare and a lot of aspiring VAs are quitting because it is really hard to get a beak.

The very successful ones yeah, but the other ones are struggling, especially in the beginning. For example Kaji Yûki looked up which wild plants were okay to eat and even got sick doing that or something

One particular VA has to eat a tissue, and even compared that the tissue that was given from some kinda cabaret taste better than the one brought from supermarket

rookie seiyū gets a much smaller salary than those well-known seiyu because it depends on a certain seiyu 'rank' and several other things such as how many times they has been the main character in a anime, etc , even though they appear in the same anime. and they get their pay check like 1-2 months after the recording (this is from yasumoto-san's experience tho). most of em also had to do baito (part time) to make a living. Like Nakamura yuichi (Gojo VA) had to do baito during his rookie days, lived in a shared apartment with 4 people, and went through so much stress that he almost quit. It took him years to finally making money from seiyuu jobs. Even well-known and experienced seiyuu often failed at multiple auditions, you can imagine those who are still rookies went through so much harder than that.

B-lister, A-lister is probably so, but rookies especially who doesnt even have radio or other than voice acting job will suffer a lot (you can see how some voice actors dont actually have anime or game roles, but still survived in the industry bcs they have radio shows/shows in general like in niconico or cookpad). Even those who have several anime roles doesnt mean they're paid well. Theres a reason why a lot of them esp newcomers are voicing R18 drama cds (even the most questionable one) with pseudonyms besides for gathering audiences. Recently a certain actor (voice actor, stage actor) even got caught for scams and turned out it was because dude have a money problem despite dude got roles in some anime and game.
