No band sounds as good as the Legion and the marching style is very precise and sharp. Most people sleep on the musical arrangements as they know how to take advantage of the accents and modulations in their selections. The would reign #1 in the SWAC as they have been voted the top HBCU band in the past.

Norfolk State University Band represented the Tidewater area, the State of Virginia and the City of Norfolk fantastically. GO SPARTANS! BEHOLD THE GREEN AND GOLD!

I know the SWAC don’t wanna hear it but the would be #1 their musicianship is unmatched and the militant style of the band is Amazing and they get down……Did you see them in the rose parade they definitely represented

I saw the Spartans in the rose bowl and they look and sound great but I also saw The Jukebox in the 2020 rose bowl and they were outstanding and sound amazing. There is a difference between sound and arrangement that is still unmatched for the Jukebox today. The Jukebox have been consistent every year since the 80’s. Overall the Spartans did a great job and has a lot to be proud of.

I think they would be right there with Southern as 1A and 1B. Depending on what style you like. I think for a long time the swac, and the south underestimated Norfolk. They have their size back and are traveling more now. Yall are in trouble.

Wow. I didn't think Norfolk danced. Hmmm.. Maybe they didn't dance long when I saw them at the National Battle of the Bands to change my perception of them not dancing. Nice show that sounded good from beginning to end.

There is a dance routine in every Legion Halftime show unless it was a Gospel Show from the early 2000's

I hadn't seen a lot of Norfolk, though I have heard of them since the mid-80s and started seeing some clips of them in the 90s and live at recent National Battle of the Bands. Their music, drills, flag Corp, marching style, tubas and percussions are what I have noticed and appreciated over the years. It could be there wasn't dance routines in what I have seen or routines that didn't stick with me. Dance routines are the hardest entertainment in every bands show. There is only so much one can to impress a crowd with in a large group. I will keep an eye out in expectations for more dance routines from the Spartans.

I would say Norfolk State would be #2 behind Southern University for a musicianship and entertainment value in the SWAC.
