I was surprised and gratified when the audience held its applause at the end. There needs to be a substantial moment of silence after the last note is played. There is a good reason. It has to do with the vibrations in the air that remain after the music stops. The music is still radiating outward, outward and it needs a space of silence to move into. The cacophonous beating of hands, the rowdy applause, beats it back and obliterates the afterglow that is absolutely necessary for the FULLEST enjoyment of the music. The music needs to be surrounded by silence. That way, it can be heard better. It's like clearing the palate between courses at dinner. At the end of a piece, the audience should hold back their enthusiasm for a few seconds. Let the music melt away. I would even have preferred a silence that lasted 20 seconds or more !

So touching to hear this played by a Dresden orchestra. Vivaldi had close links with Dresden via his friend and acolyte Johann Georg Pisendel They were friends for about 30 years. During that time Vivaldi wrote music for Pisendel's orchestra the Dresdner Hofkapelle. This explains why Dresden holds so many Vivaldian treasures, sometimes autograph, sometimes copied in Pisendel’s own hand. However the the Allied bombing of Dresden a barbaric war crime, not only killed an estimated 30,000 people but also destroyed many art works including Vivaldi manuscripts. This music will remain unheard. It was both an atrocity against humanity but also against culture.

I got on the "bad" side of George Novak (my Trumpet Professor). He took his "D" Trumpet back to punish me. I was determined to play "Gloria", so I got BGSU's E-flat Bach, & transposed Principle Trumpet to Key of "B"! Played itj just fine! Michael McClary

Where is the oboe? The orchestration is typically Baroque with solo oboe, solo trumpet, violins, violas and bass continuo (harpsichord, organ, cello and bass). No Bassoon. I am a retired symphony oboist from Boston and have played this piece several times never with bassoon and always with one Oboe and occasionally with two. Never without.

Eine großartige Darbietung mit einer leider sehr verhallten Wiedergabe. Das zu weit entfernte Mikro gibt den Raumklang wieder, mindestens 8 Einzelmikros und ein Mischpult hätten hergehört ! Diese verpasste Chance tut mir wegen der wunderbaren Stimmen und des sehr präsenten jungen Orchesters in der Seele weh.

There are parts where I would say its also too fast *for my liking*, howver there is nothing wrong with the interpretation at all. I, for example, have always done "no.II - Et In Terra Pax" much slower... possibly too slow for some... but again... its my interpretation. To call it awful shows an appalling attitude! Disagree with an interpretation all you like.... we can all still appreciate the music, musicians and direction etc...
