Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
How do you capture greens in your sketchbook?
Maybe you don't even need to use the color green. What?! Today I will show you examples from my sketchbooks to show you there is no one way to capture leaves, trees, bushes, flowers, and all the good stuff that nature surrounds us with.

I just finished (last night) the 4th Edition of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, in the 4th of the 5 questions, Betty makes the point that there is a fascinating point where playing with value you cross a point where you don’t need to add details. Although she never mentioned chiaroscuro, there is a lot of the work with the transparent & opaque; illuminated & Obscured. I am seeing the same last week & here with the play with greens & green adjustment hues built up from not using green. These draw tip Tuesday’s have been a fascinating journey. Including many useful applications from so many books: from Kimon Nicolaïdes, Danny Gregory, Betty Edwards & even Julia Cameron. So many insights to learn from & play with in the pages of my sketchbook.

Those are challenging, but the effect is amazing. It reminds me of one art class where we had to use tools other than paint brushes to paint (Qtip, mascara brush, etc)

Hi Koosje! Have you ever made a video on mark making? I've searched and watched a lot of your videos, and mark making is something you talk about a lot, but it's still something I struggle with. lovely! you often use crayons, are you talking about true children's school crayons (if so what brand bc the color is great) or oil pastel?

Yeah you can totally use crayola crayons. But my brand of choice is Caran d’Ache Neocolor I (these are the non-soluble kind. The Neocolor II are watersoluble)
