Let's Draw In A Café

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
Let's step out and create some art in a café today! I frequently get questions about sketching people in a café (they tend to move around a lot, which can be challenging), capturing the ambiance and atmosphere, dealing with the attention of onlookers, and more. Today, I'm excited to demonstrate the entire process. I headed to a coffee shop, grabbed a sketchbook, and recorded the entire process from start to finish. I believe that by observing someone else draw and then trying it yourself (that's the key!), you can learn so much.

Today will be the last day with the bingo card because I have done them all! So for the rest of the month I will use ideas from other Inktober lists. This has been a lot of fun and of coarse I have had to figure out how best do each sketch. I have found that when I look back at them a day or two later, I sometimes make additions to improve or correct them. Hopefully that doesn’t violate any sketching rules. I plan to continue the daily sketching if possible. Thank you for sharing your ideas and enthusiasm!

Congratulations with your BINGO! I think it’s great that you’re learning from your sketches by looking at them after a few days when you have a bit more distance to them so to say. And you know that there are no rules when it comes to drawing. Do what brings you joy.

That’s quite impossible. And even so, your drawing pace will be different then mine. Embrace your own pace so you can relax and enjoy the process.

You painted very quickly. Are you not waiting for the paints to dry in between layers?

I do. I paint in places where the paper or paint is dry, and then I go back to the parts that dried while I was working on other bits of the drawing.
