Cory, thanks for sharing Insadong. It is such a special place that Wifey and I truly enjoy visiting. Insadon and Jongak are some of our most favorite places to hang out in Seoul. I can't wait to get back to get caught up on all the changes. I especially can't wait to get back to Insadong and try Hotteok. Its like one of my favorite street foods.

***** Hi Cory, I would recommend going with the Hero4 Silver (i'm very glad I did)... The inbuilt screen is invaluable (especially when using with 3 axis gimbal) and unless you absolutely need 4K recording, the Black is overkill for most people I think. The Silver performs exceptionly well at night (even slightly better than the Black) and the clarity of the Silver is outstanding (falling just below the Black, although again for most people this is a non-issue)

I love those little back-alleyways! So cool. I feel like I could explore those forever. Great place to find 'hidden treasures' that are away from the masses. There is also something about them that just makes you want to explore and almost intentionally get lost. Same allure that mazes have, maybe? My favorite places to find are shops or restaurants or maybe even a library that are away from the main paths and are nearly hidden. You could walk right by them and not know that they're there, but once you step through it's like stepping into a pocket dimension or something. Very cool to experience.

Insadong! I actually love this place more for their various street food rather than the traditional stuff (which I find is kind of touristy-ed out here now and better experienced in the countryside), lol. Have you tried those Turkish Ice cream that can be seen in the beginning of the video, it's pretty fun how they play around with you and the ice cream isn't too shabby either haha. Love those waffle/cane ice creams and hotteok from here as well.

Insadong used to be such a quaint place, with a few antique chests , potteries, gifts , dojang (hanko), and tea shops. Hope they will renew the place to show Korea's aesthetic cultural heritage that went down to Japan over something like 500 years. Some of these shops now may be run by S.E. Asians such as Vietnamese because a Russian man, TV personality in Korea from Utah married a Vietnamese female.

Oh well 2 things, for one: Your new fixator is definitely an improvement, your camera is much more smooth and less shacky now. For another: You said it is gonna get even more crowded later at day? Wow lol... In my oppinion what you show us is pretty crowded already, reminds me of berlin where I live. And you say it gets even even worse later at day? Omfg..... lol^^ Even more crowded then that? Reminds me in that sense of new york, or big cities in china --> crowded as hell to.

***** Seoul city (excluding the metro area) is actually 9.5 million. The population in Seoul has actually shrunk from 10 million, five years ago, as there has been a rush of people moving out the suburbs (as well as the fact that South Korea's birth rate is now the lowest rate in the world).

Hi Cory,Thanks for another wonderful video.I noticed,unlike Japan,vending machines don't appear to exist in South Korea.Are there many, or any in S Korea? Thanks.
@CoryMay816 жыл бұрын
There are vending machines, but not as many as in Japan. Korea has them for sure, inside subway stations, shopping malls, near public parks, etc. You won't see any in this video because this is in the Insa-dong neighborhood. This area has a long history tied to traditional Korean art, music, and tea. So there are certain standards specifically for this neighborhood. For example, not long after I filmed this video, the city started banning many of the non-traditional street food vendors because it was getting out of control with random street food items that weren't Korean. All the stores in this area must have their sign in Korean first, and if there's English, it has to be smaller than the Korean letters. There's some other guidelines for this neighborhood as well. They just want to preserve it without turning it into another Myeongdong full of foreign businesses, foreign foods, etc. For example, the Starbucks in this area was the first in the world to have their sign be not in English. So it stays Starbucks in Hangeul, and then in smaller letters it says Starbucks in English. Hope this helps!
