very useful video, exactly what I need. Thanks very much. A question, when you say 'exchange your license" do you mean that they take your original license off you? If so, how do you get it back later on?! If you don't mind me asking... :)

Glad it was useful for you! To clarify, the officers will take your original licence when you exchange it for a Korean licence. To receive your original licence back, you need to take along your Passport, the Korean licence and a copy of your flight itinerary for departing Korea. They will then take the Korean licence back and return your original licence to you. Let me know if you have any other questions 😃

The apostille certificate part is confusing. You just sent your license and application to the embassy? What embassy? The US embassy in Korea? where is the application form for the apostille to send in? The website doesn't even show the application form.

I am not American, so I did not send my documents to the US Embassy. I went to the Australian Embassy’s website and followed their instructions. Each Embassy will have its own protocol for issuing apostille certificates, so you need to refer to your individual Embassy’s website/give them a call.

Your video has been very helpful. I finally have my driving license exchanged to a Korean driving license BUT the date of issue of the driving license is April 2022. But I obtained my driving license from my country is Dec 2004. When I wanted to rent a car in jeju isalnd, they said that I am not qualified as I only obtain my license in April 2022 but that was the date where I exchanged my license in Korea. Anyone encounter this issue ?

Hello question. I will be exchanging my Driver License as well. I have my DL Apostilled from Illinois. They only just took a photo copy of my DL and then they gave me the apostile. Is good enough.

Yes, from what I understand, the document will be a photocopy of your driver’s licence with a seal of apostille certification on it. If it’s issued by a government agency, then you shouldn’t have any issues

@@챔보 thanks! I just notice something on my apostilled. They only made a photocopy of the front. They didn't make a photocopy of the back. DO think this will be a problem? Did they copy both sides for you?

The address for the dong office depends on your place of residence. If you type in '(dong name) dong office' in google, the address for your area will pop up.

If you hold a licence from one of the AC countries on the list, then correct, you don’t need to take a driving test when exchanging your licence.
