Stop saying people who miss out their t's are lazy. This girl always says this on every video. Its called a glottal stop and certain regional accents have it.
@lauraesme54018 жыл бұрын
My apologies, you are absolutely correct - there are a wide range of accents in the UK, many of which use a glottal stop, not in a 'lazy' manner but as a matter of course - it would be fantastic to explore a variety here! I articulated myself very poorly here - I think I was more referring to my own personal speech patterns, and how they change when I'm tired or speaking in a relaxed manner to friends or family, etc. As mentioned, I cannot speak for other UK accents, only my own. I am very sorry for any offense caused, it truly wasn't meant :)
@PongoXBongo8 жыл бұрын
To be fair, as an American it does sound a bit lazy. Or at least "unpolished", as opposed to "proper" BBC English from TV and movies. Nothing wrong with it, just not what outsiders are used to hearing.
@94blondebimbo8 жыл бұрын
Laura Esme Than you Laura. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to my comment. The only reason I commented was because I expected for the guys to hear and react to the different regional accents but then I heard you describe the dropping the T thing as lazy for the second time in two videos. I now understand you didn't mean to cause any offense and all is good here.
@itsjustmesophie8 жыл бұрын
Yeah but literally even most people from London don't have a BBC accent. `its only really posh people who do. ( And Laura; I don't know whether she's posh or not but she sounds like she went to private school.)

1:49 She said, "It's kind of a newsreader voice; it's kind of boring, really." Also, I know she was just speaking in general, but I found it really amusing how she made it clear in the beginning that there are several types of British accents, and that hers is what is commonly known as Received Pronunciation, but then goes on to say things like "the American accent". ^^
@peace76428 жыл бұрын
Ashemarine phoneme use doesn't differ to such an extent in American accents. They are quite similar, whilst the English accents are incredibly different
@NexSicarius8 жыл бұрын
Nally That may be so, but there is quite a diverse range of accents in the US as well; there are some that you might not even be able to understand without subtitles (much like some English accents). For example, a dialect commonly known as Cajun English (spoken in parts of Louisiana) actually exhibits features of typical Irish accents, such as saying "tink" for "think" and so on.
@sarenaa.22548 жыл бұрын
Cajun English is actually more French than it is Irish, haha. Cajun actually originates from the French settlers in Acadia, Quebec (Canada), and they emigrated to Louisiana, making their English different! All in all, though, I think while there are obviously different styles of English anywhere you go (whether be because of immigration, community, or cultural) we usually just generalize "American" accents into one. Odd, isn't it? Now I feel like North America needs to begin a new style just for us xD
@NexSicarius8 жыл бұрын
That's fair, since the whole concept of "Cajun" does come from the French settlers. I'm not saying I don't use the phrase "American accent" in real life, but I just feel like it's important to make a distinction for some of them, e.g. people in Minnesota sounding so different from someone who grew up in Boston (say Southie).
@lexicon95997 жыл бұрын
Yeah in America we have the Californian accent, valley girl accent, southern accent, Chicago accent, New York accent, and ghetto speech (I mean, it's literally basically it's own accent at this point... think cash me outside girl. ) so if you don't count ghetto, that's still at least 5 accents
@haylz278 жыл бұрын
