as a trans guy, i'm personally not terribly offended by this video. of course people who haven't interacted much with trans people irl are going to not know how to say all the right things. they were well-meaning, and i think that given the context (i.e. they were supposed to give their reactions), what they said was just questions that anyone might have. we as trans people aren't obligated to spend our time educating cis people, but i also think that it's too harsh to berate people who are making a good faith effort to understand, and who clearly do want to learn. i just ask people to consider whether vitriolic comments are creating any good or remedying any harm, or whether they just contribute to embitterment.

I really appreciate the variety of topics this channel is trying to cover and really love the LGBTQ+ representation of Koreans. However, I do feel like this video could have benefited from having a trans person present with both of them (as long as the person is comfortable doing so) to share their own story and maybe guide the conversation better, simply because a lot of comments in the video were likely made without fully understanding what trans people go through. I think that they would have made more insightful comments while learning from the experience of a trans person, rather than just randomly reacting to TikToks without context. I’m sure that was the whole point of the video, but I think this video could have really benefited from the trans perspective. I’d love to see Yena on the channel again!

I loved this video and I think we need more blunt open discussion like this. People won't always say the right things but sometimes these questions make people realise their ignorance and reconsider their feelings. I also think it's totally valid to not know how you'd feel when it comes to sex with people who haven't transitioned yet. There's no pretending it isn't different. They didn't invalidate their gender they just wondered how it would logistically work.

Something to keep in mind here for the people that don't know Korean and seeing the subtitles say the wrong prns for the people, they're not actually using the wrong pronouns because they're not actually using pronouns at all when they're talking about them (the Korean language very commonly doesn't use gendered pronouns). It's been translated so that there are prns for the English audience. Whoever translated the video could've been more informed when translating it to english and using the right prns but they probably didn't know.

The big problem of the trans community is precisely that we are related to the genitals before our gender identity. The trans community is very varied where the person who does not want to go through surgeries or hormones is also respected, it is validated equally in their identity. It seeks the integration of trans people into the various groups and remove the erroneous idea that is had about sexual orientation of trans people. In my case trans gay I find it difficult to interact with other guys who rely on the genitals. Where the same guys in the gay community point to another cis male for having a relationship with a trans man, "telling him he's less of a man". it is good to be given visibility
@carolap.b.335 Жыл бұрын
Actually, I get and I can understand that people have a preference on genitals since for some people intimacy is an essential part of a relationship (for example, I'm a straight girl and I dated a trans guy for 5 months but we never had sex because at the time he didn't have bottom surgery yet and I'm not sexually interested in the female anatomy) but about what you wrote at the end, I really don't understand it when people say shit like that. If a cis gay man date a trans man he's still gay because he's dating another man...

But as a trans man who hasn't had bottom surgery (SRS) as yet and cis people within the community make it seem as though it's weird to have sex with me, it just feels so ignorant (in my opinion). this is what my mother said as a cis straight woman (i cant speak cause im bisexual lmao): if he is fully transitioned with all surgeries i wouldnt care, i would like to know before hand that they arent biologically male but at the end of the day it wouldnt change my view on him , but if he did not have full surgeries then i would not be able to be with him. im not a lesbian so im not attracted to vaginas, to be completely honest i want to puke even imagining eating out a vagina. so what i got from her saying this is the genitals are litteraly the biggest part of dating someone. unless you are asexual you are going to have sex, you cant have sex with genitals you dont have an attraction to. it isnt ignorant. it isnt transphobic. and sadly it is how it works. if a straight cis person doesnt want to have sex with you until you are fully transitioned it is complety normal and understandable.

Id like to make it clear that romantic and sexual attraction dont have to be the same. For a lot they are. Or they dont realize its not. Examples would be asexual or aromantic people. Could like romance or sex. But not both. Or maybe they are aro ace. So neither. Maybe homosexual heteromantic. That person would be okay with dating cis person and trans person. But probably only have intimate relations with the trans person. Theres many combos. Im ftm and i dont get annoyed when people say they wouldnt date me unless i had bottom surgery. Man women nonbinary ect. They cant help they arent attracted to me sexually. (Personally i dont blame them tho. I dont even wanna do things like that without having bottom surgery first. It just feels gross. Thats me tho. Not everyone) Im homosexual biromantic. Id date both women and men. But i can only see myself getting intimate with someone AMAB (assigned male at birth) who hasnt undergone a sex change. If i have a sex change or not, i only like AMAB sexually.

@sahartariq32612 жыл бұрын
I have to agree @amber. I don’t think they meant to be offensive or has any malice intended, but that the comments may have been from a place of unfamiliarity and subject to interpretation. And to answer your question @Lovable Character, maybe they were translation mistakes, but they kept referring to the people in the videos with the pronouns that were (likely from) before they transitioned, and at 3:15, the line about “Because was so pretty, and I’m a lesbian” was a bit uncomfortable, because that tiktoker was likely misgendered and the sentiment behind that comment could be seen as a bit hurtful. Additionally, when they were answering the question about being approached by a trans person, they made it seem like that they were only comfortable/interested if the person fully underwent gender affirmation surgery. A lot of people have this idea / There’s this perpetuated idea that trans people can only be “complete” if they undergo surgery, when it’s not true. Surgery is also a big thing to consider on many factors. Some people may just have preferences when it comes to dating, but the way they were laughing about it could come off as hurtful to someone who hasn’t undergone surgery. I feel like attraction can someone can go beyond what’s going on down there, and the way they changed when the question was flipped was a bit off-putting. I wish they were just a bit more careful about their language and I want to know if they’d act the same way if a trans person was in front of both of them. Edit: Thank you for everyone correcting me about the translation and how Korean doesn’t actually have pronouns. This is definitely a translation/editing mistake and I hope that the pronouns in the English subs can be changed. Thank you for also providing your opinions on the preference/surgery issue that I brought up; the different points that you brought up made me reflect a lot.
@sele62472 жыл бұрын
@@sahartariq3261 I agree about the 3:15 comment (assuming it's not a translation mistake, also l don't think it was intentional, not trying to excuse it though). The preference thing though... you said it yourself, it's all about what they are into/feel comfortable with, people are free to choose who to date and be open about it. Not everyone is going to meet everyone else's preferences, it's not something only trans people experience, some people only date tall people, brunettes, people older than them, etc. not everyone is going to like you, and that's fine. They never said trans people were only complete if they had bottom surgery, all they said is they weren't sure THEY would be interested in people who hadn't had it, it's not that deep and it doesn't mean everyone else thinks the same. Instead of policing what other people say and being defensive, we should encourage people to be confident about themselves and stop caring so much about what other people say. As long as you are a good person there's going to be people that likes and appreciates you just the way you are.
@lovablecharacter81672 жыл бұрын
@@sahartariq3261 oh I see. I understand now. I do agree with @Sele, it didn't come across to me that they didn't see trans people as only complete if underwent surgery, just that they, themselves, have a genital preference. Also, the 3:15 mark, it is a mistranslation. From my basic korean knowledge, what she said was "because was pretty". The subject is usually omitted because it is implied what is being talked about. But in english, it doesnt make sense, so I guess the translator wrote in "she" not knowing what it would mean to a FTM Trans person (I'm giving benefit of the doubt here though, so hopefully they really didn't know)

The end of the video was the most important to me as a lesbian because yes these people can pass very well but at the end of the day the most gorgeous person who presents as a woman will not be compatible with me if born a boy. We are homosexuals and that is not an attraction to internal feelings and presentation (though presentation can play into it), it's absout being attracted to the same-sex. The reality is we'd more more down with someone trans but born a girl than the other way round, which is only logical. If a trans man is early in their transition or isn't medically transitioning there's virtually no physical difference with a masculine woman. And I like that we're seeing them think about that at the end, without the stigma pushed on us in western countries and in "queer" spaces to be validating machines.

No I am genuinely asking I not that educated about tgbtq still trying to learn new things every dat, so plz enlighten me.
@someoldytaccount2 жыл бұрын
It would depend on your reasoning as to why you would prefer a straight man over a trans man. If they looked the same, could offer you the same quality of affection, and would both have male sex organs (if that matters to you), what is it that differs about these hypothetical men in your eyes and once you figure that out, why do you place value on it? Value meaning why would being told someone's trans be a "turn off" for you, and therefore you put value in what you believe only a straight man can offer you. My only assumption is that you may feel one man offers a "better" or "more true" experience than the other, which if this is the conclusion you come to after asking yourself, it is indeed based in transphobic (not homophobic) rhetoric. Which doesn't immediately mean your intentions are transphobic or that you are transphobic (transphobic meaning an extreme dislike, fear, or hate for trans people), just that your subconscious views have been affected by transphobic comments and beliefs. These are things you need to educate yourself about, and that includes looking into yourself and questioning why you believe in things. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me anything or explain something better! You're already doing well by asking :)
