Korean Lunch Box at Tongin Market

Today we get a taste of traditional Korean lunch boxes at Tongin Market (통인시장). Back in the day, Korean mothers would pack dosirak (도시락) for their children to take to school and husbands to take to work. These boxful of munchies would be made of assorted side dishes, including kimbap, seaweed sheets, jangjorim, gyeranmari and savoury pancakes. Students and office workers these days often buy lunch now. But if you want the dosirak experience, head to the neighbourhood west of the Gyeongbokgung Palace. Make sure to bring 5,000 won in cash per person to exchange for old-school Korean coins! Watch to see the food adventure unfold :)

watched this vlog a year ago and decided to visit last january with my friends... we've enjoyed the experience and the food but personally loved sikhye and mayak gimbap :) aside from that, it was truly an unforgettable day as we were able to meet the Prime Minister (in person) who was visiting Tongin market the same day and was very kind enough to give us a cup of yuja-cha (which was also oh so good!) ;) thank you Ms. Mina for sharing this :) to more vlogs! :)

It makes a lot of sense to put a hole in a coin. You can string it and easily tell it from other similarly-sized coins. I always said the U.S. one-dollar coin should be made of Bronze and have a hole in it, so it isn't constantly mistaken for a quarter.
