Oh it’s 1000% objectifying! There is definitely a percentage of Korean men that have fantasies about being with a foreign woman, simply because she’s a foreigner. I only spent a month in Korea but I would constantly hear Korean men giggle amongst themselves and look dead at me saying “look a foreigner,” “oh she’s pretty” and “you should get her kakaotalk/instagram” (sort of like high school boys). I guess they all assumed I didn’t understand Korean or didn’t care if I heard. Regardless, it definitely felt objectifying and uncomfortable. (I also had an old man, like the one in this video, start talking to me randomly on a bus and it was definitely uncomfortable. He even asked me if I was Russian? As the commentator before me said, Dark Asia with Megan or most videos on rotten mango really give you another understanding of what going on over there. I engage in the same feminism as the 4B movement members so I talked to a few women from Korea in different forums/tumblr/reddit and it’s simply sad what they are going through while most of the world looks at Korea and only sees K-pop, Kdrama and some skin care.. thinking that this is an awesome country. Whenever I see these comments, I wonder if your country is educating statistics. According to a release by UNDP(the United Nations Development Program), Korea's gender inequality index was ranked 16th as of 2022. Denmark was ranked first, Austria was ranked 12th, Germany was 19th, Japan was 22nd, France was 24th, Poland was 31st, the United States was 44th, and India was 108th. The ranking you referenced is probably from the 2010s GGI(Gender Gap Index) data from WEF(the World Economic Forum). As of 2015, Korea's GGI index was 115th out of 145 countries. In the WEF, Korea ranked 114th of the college enrollment rate, with a male college enrollment rate of 111 percent and a closer look at 85 percent for women. There is a strange conclusion that 111 out of 100 Korean men go to college. Men's absence from college without leaving the university is also treated as a period of university education, because it is common for men to take a leave of absence during their military service, which increases the period of education. It is a bit different from reality because women can take a leave of absence from school even if they are not in the military. When you understand any statistical data, you must gain insight into the phenomena that occur later in the statistics. For example, the conclusion that "all humans have one testicle on average" is true, but it is not.

It's the first one. People from East Asian countries (ie. Korea and Japan) it is very common for them to have never seen someone who was NOT Korean/Japanese. You legitimately have entire towns that have literally never seen a white/black person. There is also the added beauty 'industry' in East Asia which is a WHOLE thing. From idols to skin whitening to different expectations of women etc there is a very large issue with sexism and incel-adjacent territory. I'm not sure about S. korea, but in Japan there is definitely a huge issue with men perpetrating crimes against women and generally being incredibly misogynistic.

Surprisingly there are a lot of channels like that, as Korean, I think those channels are targeted for teenagers or early 20s who have no experience in touching grass. or just..I think Koreans generally like to look at people if that makes sense?..and being beautiful is the best compliment you can get, THIS or "you're very skilled" smth like that. There are also so many youtubers giving tips for better relationship or mainly about..how to get a date even though the topic can be literally anything else, it doesn't need to be about relationship Koreans are very interested in these kinds of topics I guess..and they ask youtuber how they're not confident with their look so they want to get a feedback, usually the feedback is just "be yourself" or "be confident" so it's not terrible but it's kinda weird watching those videos. People like watching other people being in a relationship, you know those dating programs? yeah those things. I think Koreans take 'being in a relationship' a bit too seriously?..just look at k-drama, and because of this even though we know we can be ourselves, "not taking care of yourself" or "not taking care of your looks" is often considered being lazy. They all just want to be in k-drama, at least that's what I think. So just talking about what's your type when you look at men/women, or "why haven't you dated yet, you're pretty", do you consider yourself having a high standards etc..any questions about being in a relationship is considered a small talk/casual talk here. I mean, not THAT casual, these questions are definetely not being asked to people you just met, but it's just natural thing to ask. WHICH IS SO WEIRD However even with all of this, the comments they're making during this video is considered problematic in Korea too, this channel is just so weird. Also yeah, that is the most Korean-looking European I've ever seen. Also also, these channels are usually heavily scripted. Her saying "I'm not that hungry right now" is actually meant to be "I'm not in a rush" so yeah, you got it right. The old guy's compliment is so uncomfortable lol, but that's how people in 50s-60s usually talk. They have this mindset of "I can call beautiful women beautiful because that is how guys are like" and occasionally they say this out loud too, thinking this is a good compliment.
