When you say all of that to the vendor, they will think you speak korean well. So they will talk back more and more untill you're lost.

Mark Gil Lalangan that's the only thing I was thinking the whole time while watching this =/ and then I'll have to ask in English for them to repeat it but in English
@milam46356 жыл бұрын
Well I agree with what you think but I feel like they won’t talk back to you and have a legit conversation because you are and look like a forigner... So it really depends.

For anyone new to the "goodbye"s in Korean, 안녕히가세요 (annyeonghi gaseyo, "go in peace") and 안녕히계세요 (annyeonghi gyeseyo, "stay in peace"), first remember it's always relative to whether the person you're speaking to is staying or going, and has nothing really to do with you. Then remember that the 가 (ga) in 안녕히가세요 stems from the Korean verb 가다 (gada) which means "to go." I'd studied Korean for nearly a year, struggling to remember which goodbye was which until I realized this. On the other end, the 계 in 안녕히계세요 stems from the verb 계시다 (gyesida) roughly means "to exist" or "live." I'll be in South Korea next Spring and Summer semesters down in the 경산시 and 대구시 areas, though I'm certain I'll find my way around the country when I'm not in class. :]

nice! so you are going to university in korea? only for one semester?
@PiroMunkie9 жыл бұрын
Roxyhun Two semesters, Spring and Summer. My major has a foreign language requirement, but my university doesn't offer Korean or more than basic Chinese, so I figured I'd study abroad to do that instead since none of the other languages really interested me (that and I'm an international studies major, so it makes sense to spend some time studying internationally!) So I'll be participating in the intensive language study program at the Korean Language Institute located at Yeungnam University.

Thanks. I'm trying to learn enough to get around, but most places just give you words and phrases without breaking down what they actually mean. Like, I knew the different forms of saying "good bye," but didn't actually know its true meaning, just the context of when to use them.

Thank you for the video. I just have one question left: You mentioned Igeo and Jeogeo for this and that and this ist totally right. But I also learned Ige and Jeoge as well. Can you describe the difference?
@PiroMunkie9 жыл бұрын
Professor Oh can correct me if I'm wrong, but to my understanding 이거 and 저거 are used when the pronoun is the object of the verb. So in the case of this video, "this" and "that" are both the object of the verb 주세요. You're saying, "Please give me _this_." "Please give me _that_." On the other hand, 이게 and 저게 are for when "this" and "that" are the subject of the verb, such as "This is my father" or "That is an apple."
