the 38mm was the real difference. After the change to 40mm, that wiped out a lot of the good old players. LGL was a prime example

during the clip 2:18 Kim Teak Soo switches to shakehand to do the chop from down low, then switches back to penhold to finish the rally. mad skill

He was just using the back of the paddle, no change to handshake.

@@MrMilanoLau he DID change his grip. Look closely. And besides, penhold players aren't allowed to use the back of their paddle (it's against the rule)

@@송영훈-b9o Penholders cannot use the back only if there is rubber only on one side. All Chinese penholders are using both sides of their paddles now. Besides, I watched that part of the video 4 to 5 times but still could not see the change.

@@MrMilanoLau He never used the back of his blade cause he didn't have a rubber.That's a given.Even if he hit with the back of the blade he wouldn't be able to control the shot.No rubber =no spin.

두 선수 모두 아름답다ㅎ 펜홀더가 보여줄수 있는 모든걸 보여주네. 화려하고 파워 넘치는 포핸드와 독특하고 유연한 백핸드. 그리고 펜홀더의 백미인 미친 풋워크ㅎ

삼소노프는 김택수 시절에도 있었고 유승민선수가 활동할때도 있었고 유승민 선수가 은퇴할때도 있었고 주세혁선수가 은퇴하고나서도 계속하네 몇년을 활동하는거지? 그 긴세월동안 선수생활을 계속 할 수 있도록 몸관리를 꾸준히 하나보네요

sadly, with the retirement of RSM, this marks the end of the legendary/golden age of Jpen. Jpen will become an extinct playing style in the international circuit. You'll still see Jpens played in amateur tournaments, but will hardly will see another one on the international stage. Too many faults/limitations. Just like Chinese Penhold. I'd say it is now 99.99% shakehand being played on the international stage sadly. =(

Since he so much liked applying the lob tactic from far areas out of the table to induce his opponents to fail to attack to lose points but how come no one'd know to show a short ball tactic to lure him to fall into his own busy running chaos,then attack empty spaces on his table with unexpected topspin loops to score as soon as he didn't heed ?

Good observation. But bear in mind that returned lobs usually have a good amount of topspin embedded onto the ball, as well as a bit of sidespin, depending on whether the forearm and wrists were used to produce those lobs. Because spins are rather difficult to predict from lobbing, players often resort to smashes. In order to do a drop shot against a lob, several factors need to be considered: 1) the landing of the lobs. Close to net would lead to great drop shots, while deep lobs can result in ineffective drop shots. 2) the amount of spin imparted on the lobs. Because the lob trajectories are the same regardless of the type of spins imparted, since lobs are all in hyperbolic trajectory, it is difficult to determine the spins on the ball. 3) drop shots are risky shots compared to smashes. Hope this helps. I'd recommend that you try to smashing and do drop shots against lobs where the lobber incorporates different spins and placements, and you'll see just how difficult dropping the ball is versus smashing.

He was a fantastic jpen player but unfortunately he wasn't quite at the same level as kim taek soo and yoo nam kyu.

무왕자는 아님 아시아선수권 단식에서 중국선수들 다물리치고 금메달땄음 그리고 세계고수들만 출전팃켓을 주는파이널 월드컵 에서도 단식금메달 땄음 단지 올림픽세계 선수권에서만 동메달 밖에 못땄을뿐이지

사실 유남규는 86년~88년도가 그의 전성기였다. 유남규는 88년 만20세 때 올림픽 금메달 획득 후 모든 걸 이뤄서인지 그 전에 비해 연습도 부족했고 22세 후에는 기량도 많이 떨어졌다. 유남규는 19세~20세 때 이미 굉장한 지능형 플레이를 했고 기량 또한 그때 벌써 완숙에 이르러 있었다. 23~26세경의 유남규는 권태기, 연습 소홀 등으로 체력과 기량이 많이 떨어져서 19~20세 때보다 매우, 많이, 훨씬 못한 편이었다. 유남규는 압도적으로 빠른 풋워크를 이용, 테이블에 딱 붙어서 반템포 빠르게 스매시하는 전진속공과 테이블에서 한걸음 뒤로 물러선 다음 비교적 높은 타점에서 거는 탑스핀 드라이브 그리고 한참 뒤로 물러선 다음 아래에서부터 위로 걸어 올리는 루프 중진 드라이브 등에 모두 능했다. 단조롭게 탑스핀형 중진 드라이브만 거는 다른 선수들과는 차원이 다른 다양하고 변화무쌍한 드라이브를 걸어댔고 전진속공에도 능했으며, 특히 백핸드 스매시와 백핸드 드라이브를 매우 잘했다. 요즘 치키타 같은 기술은 탁구공이 무거워져서 가능한 기술이다. 지금보다 공이 가벼운 과거에는 오히려 그런 기술을 구사하기 어려웠다. 공 컨트롤에 훨씬 더 예민해야 했기 때문이다. 김택수는 대기만성형 선수라면 유남규는 탁구에 관한한 천부적 재능 및 지독한 연습 벌레였다(올림픽 금메달 획득 전까지는 연습 벌레). 사실 유남규는 23세 이후에는 연습부족, 권태감 등으로 성적이 많이 떨어진 것이었다. 27세 이후 이미 사실상 은퇴한 사람처럼 느슨해졌다.

유남규에 대해 나도 비슷하게 들은거 같음. 금메달 따고 좀 헤이해졌다고 ㅇㅇ. 글고 김택수도 애초에 어릴때부터 각광받은 선수였지만 일찍 금메달을 따버린 유남규에 비해 대기만성이라고 표현한 거 같은데 여튼 김택수도 타고난 선수맞고 유남규에 비해 훨씬 롱런했고 역대 최고의 펜홀더는 김택수라고 봄. 유승민 유남규 모두 훌륭하지만
