Jennie stayed in New Zealand for five years and has more of New Zealand touch in her accent but there's a bit of American as well because she covered a lot of English songs during her trainee period and most were had American English and as she's a Korean, she at first started learning American-English..how do I say it..it's a lot like my case..I stayed in England for 3 years when I was little but my accent is more like American cuz I grew up watching things (youtube videos, shows and stuff) in American English and but we learn both kinds at our school (yes I'm not a native English speaker) so it's mainly a mixture. For me, I grew up in so many American states, I don’t really have any particular regional accent. 😆 My dad was born in NYC (Bronx), went to live in the Dominican Republic, forgot a lot of English so he had to re-learn it, came back and he definitely has a New Yorker accent mixed a bit with a Spanish accent. My mom was born and raised in the DR and learned English from the age of 30. She has amazing English but with a slight Spanish accent. But she’s very good and very easy to understand. For me, I was born in NYC (the Bronx, in particular), moved to New Jersey (in an area where the stereotypical NJ accent was not really present), moved to Miami for a few years, then to Tampa and now in the Atlanta area. I have what you’d call a “standard American accent”. Now something I find funny is my boyfriend was raised in the Atlanta area for the majority of his life. His parents were, too. They have a bit of a southern accent, and so does his brother and sister. My boyfriend really did NOT want to have a southern accent at all, so he worked hard to NOT learn to speak that way. So he sounds like a “standard American” accent.

interesting how you think that's smart, personally I look at that as easily influenced, not saying it's a bad thing. I only speak my own accent, I have a friend who's accent would change depending on who she has been hanging out with and she can't just flip a switch and go back to her "normal". I like to project my own personality so I've never been swayed by anyone's accent or choice of words. Also, personally I think it's rude to "imitate", or transcend, with other's accent, it's as if I'm mocking their accent.

Remember Australian Speaking English can be broken down as Broad, General and Cultivated. *Broad* is like Steve Irwin, country folk. *General* is the generic sounding English that most Australians in cities sound like. *Cultivated* is more proper English sounding where Water is pronounced with the T sound. Then there are slight noticeable twang's between states and the major cities as well

Thank you so much for this reaction, it really means a lot to me. I'm always impressed everytime Jennie speaks english she's so natural switching the accent which I also found interesting. I might try it.lol. She talked with class like you have no choice but to nod whatever she say.

Jennie's accent vary on the situation and people. Her accent when she's in interviews and other professional events are formal, there's emphasis and diction in her words. But when she's in a casual/ comforatble setting her accent is cute and lowkey

Really interesting listening to Jennie and Rose speak and analyse the accents. Just remember how young Jennie was when she was here learning NZ English. As she has grown and practiced she has picked up a range of speech inflections from a variety of sources given her life experiences. Really accurate analysis guys. I wonder what my crazy NZ accent will sound like in Korean!

I think in Jennie’s case... she studied English only 5 years and Korea is more influenced by US media. Jennie watches Netflix often. Also her first language is Korean so. Jennie’s accent is mixture of Korean, Kiwi, and American.

I am like Jennie! Because I watch a lot of American videos and stuff I have a hint of an American accent. But I also I have a little bit of a British accent, because my brother was taught British English and it kinda stick to me when he spoke in English with me... and because I was born in Greece and lived almost all my life there, I have a hint of “Greek English” accent. BUT I also have a bit of a Indian English accent because my mom is from there and she spoke English in that accent.... lmfao I have different accents in one Edit: now I moved to Germany, and I’m probably going to have a German accent in no time lmfaoooo

We need to normalize mixed accents. I don't get why some ppl get offended when they hear English that doesn't have a consistent accent. Not everyone grew up in only one area.
@6maria944 жыл бұрын
oh, is that a thing? I learnt english at school, watching movies and listening to songs. People sometimes fix my pronounciation but then I listen/watch something in which they pronounce it that way. Tbh, as I learnt from multiple sources, I probably have a mix of accents and I'm not aware of that cause I can't tell what is an accent in english (I'm starting too now, but for a long time I couldn't tell) So that would be really rude from native speakers to judge mixed accents

@@6maria94 The most recent case was when BTS was in London and some ppl were offended by RM's slight British accent. Thanks for pointing out that non-native English speakers adapt accents/pronunciations from different sources too.

Rosé and Jennie have mastered konglish (Korean / English), they switch flawlessly like Lisa does with Thai / Korean / English and its heavenly to listen to them talk being tri-lingual myself. Jisoo the master of English is coming though, watch out world!
@drianna0144 жыл бұрын
Yeah but still Rosie's korean words pronounciation still sounds slang for Korean people especially when she's nervous she literally sounds foreign and there's some words and expressions that she didn't understand yet tho it's really cute.
@dabdub76054 жыл бұрын
@@drianna014 true true. Even when she sings in Japanese you can hear the accent very clearly. In Korean, as you mentioned, its more noticeable when she's nervous; you can see it in her face she's thinking in English and trying to translate lmao she really is cute!
@drianna0144 жыл бұрын
@@dabdub7605 Yes and there's some korean words that she totally didn't understand so Jennie needs to translate it in English. And some expressions that she literally has no idea. She's too cute when she stutter in korean words like her recent vlive with Lisa she cut the word and say it twice 😂😭
