Cool. Very helpful. I have one grammar related question... not related to this video... What determines the vocabulary/term as a Subject, Object or Topic? Example: 강아지는, 강아지가 VS 강아지를? How should you determine which one is grammatically correct (based on the noun being used)?

In Korean, if you are talking ABOUT someone who is older than to a friend would you still use formal language?
@MJkingofmusiclover
@MJkingofmusiclover 5 жыл бұрын
No, because in Korean there are 2 kinds of honorifics: 1) the one that depends on who you’re talking to (casual or formal language) 2)the one that depends on who you’re talking about. If the person is older but you don’t owe them extra respect, you can use a regular verb. However, if you were to talk about someone’s parents, teacher, boss or just someone you have to respect, you would use a honorific verb. Example: You can say to your friend: 민경언니가 왔어? = Did Mingyeong 언니 come yet/ is 언니 here yet? -> you are talking to your friend about someone you don’t owe to much respect too so you use the regular verb 오다 to mean “to come”. But if you were to talk about a boss: 사장님께서 오셨어? = Did the boss arrive yet? (with honorific verb 오시다 instead of common verb 오다 and both mean “to come”). Notice how it’s not because you talk ABOUT someone you owe respect too that the sentences had to end with 요 since this ending depends on who you are talking to. I think it would be good if you studied honorific verbs too because they are very useful! Hope it help ^_^
