The travails faced by you in moving to a rented accommodation recently vacated by the an earlier tenant reminded me of my first rental accommodation 20 years back. Yes jewon u r right. Price discrimination is a real thing in India. It's not just with the foreigners even with Indians like for eg. If someone looks like he is pretty well off like wearing branded clothes or stepped out of a big car then the price wud be a lot for him than someone looking average or came on a bicycle etc. If u r a foreigner then u r gonna get ripped 100%. But in ur case the advantage is that if u become fluent in Hindi then they can't tell if u r an Indian or not. Bcoz they wud assume that u r probably from North-east India. Just like u said that when u asked them in Hindi. Kitna?? They're a little confused but probably bcoz of ur accent they were sure that u r a foreigner who cud speak few Hindi words that's all. For the time being u should always take a local person with u most likely a girl when u r buying something or paying for anything. She wud bargain and u will learn. Although I'm not sure about Mumbai girls but delhi girls are the best when it comes to bargaining. U should learn from someone like that.

I am amazed you did everything on your own. Cleaning the entire house. That's not easy. Maid cleaning is not always satisfactory. Better to save some money and do it yourself. If you are not local and don't speak the language, people change extra. Foreigners mean rich people since value of currency is different. The surprising thing for me is you are using broomstick instead of vacuum cleaner since majority of foreigners I saw use vacuum cleaners. With broomstick, there is a bit of hard work. I am happy you found your place. Since you are now living in India, you will have many different experiences both good and bad. Hope everything goes well for you on your stay.

Don't get nervous or angry because it's normal in India. As a indian I also get scammed lot of times in big cities. 😂😂 But there is a key if you stay low or try not to be foreigner in india. Nobody will scam you😅. Just Indian way.

With my fear of heights/vertigo there is no way that I could live that high up. Yes, it is easy to romanticize other countries/peoples but sadly there are those who take advantage everywhere. Here in the U.S. I have met several people from India, and they are wonderful, but they have also mentioned problems that visitors sometimes face in particular for single women. Even so, very happy for you, hope that your dreams come true and that you make good friends.
