Just a clarification regarding what they mean about OPM and having no "original colors." [Copied from a reply of mine to a comment below!] What they were trying to say is how it seems like the Philippines "true /musical/ colors" haven't really shown through based on the three MVs presented. People may argue that the "true" sound of Filipino music is that of the 2000s style of OPM. Acoustics, ballads, and birits. However, you can't deny that those songs are somehow influenced by the west. Especially since the sound and instruments being used are exactly the same. What they're looking for is a distinct Filipino sound akin to how you know if a song's from South America/has latin influences (Luis Fonsi's Despacito = Puerto Rico, or Taki Taki by DJ Snake), Korea (K-pop's roots are from traditional Korean music like the ending drop of Blackpink's Ddu Du Ddu Du/G-Dragons Niliria intro), or India (Jai Ho by AR Rahman [before the Pussycat Dolls]). I guess the closest one in mainstream Filipino music is how Karencitta has incorporated the Sinulog-like beats to her music, or if you remember Mare by Black Eyed Peas and how they were able to use the kulintang-like sounds as a base of their song's hook. Francis Magalona's Mga Kakabayan Ko is another very good example of this as well. I never really gave it much attention until hearing what our Korean friends said in the video. Yeah, we are producing great music these days, but it would be nice if more of our own sounds could be incorporated in the future. The music industry of the world is saturated by hip-hop, indie and pop. We make songs just as good back in the Philippines. But just as good means that you aren't any different. Probably one of the reasons why we haven't really taken off globally yet? Come to think of it, Freddie Aguilar's Anak was the last song from our country that became extremely famous. If you listen closely, it sounds very Kundiman. It may have set the music trend in Asia back in the 70s (not sure btw)... Just listen to a couple of Asian songs from the 70s and you'll see what I mean~ Just trying to clarify misunderstandings and see things through another perspective. 😊

Hello ELites! Sorry it took a while~ Get to know more about the artists through their descriptions below! 엘리트 여러분 안녕하세요! 영상에서 언급된 아티스트들을 더 알고싶다면 디스크립션을 확인해 주세요! *PS: We gave our usual introductions and explanations about the artists and their songs in the outtakes!* For those who haven’t read our post in the community, we're really sorry for the delay. 저희 커뮤니티 확인 못하신 분들에게 영상이 지체된 점 다시 한번 사과드립니다. It’s really just the translations that took long. (Feel free to check the community page out for proof) We're still looking for volunteers who could help out translating Korean to English and vice versa. We hope the video has met your expectations~ 이번 영상이 만족스러우셨길 바래요~ Morisette Amon is a Filipino singer who hails from Cebu City. She gained popularity after joining the popular reality TV competition called The Voice of the Philippines last 2013. Later in her career, she gained the title “Asia’s Phoenix” after her performance at the Asia Song Festival held in Busan, South Korea last 2017. She’s also notably the first Filipino celebrity to have her own V-Live channel. Al James is a Filipino rapper and songwriter who became more popularly known through the release of his single entitled "Ngayong Gabi." Al James’ Ngayong Gabi hit #1 on Wave 89.1’s primetime hit chart last December 2017 which highlights the growing strength of today’s underground hip-hop scene in the Philippines. He was even praised by popular streetwear/lifestyle blog Highsnobiety for "his syrupy flow and purple imagery make for a chill counterpoint to the chaos of life in this dense megacity." MNL48 is the official sister girl group of Japan's AKB48. At the moment, the songs that they have been releasing are translated versions of various AKB48 songs. Their latest single released is MNL48’s Team NIV (MNL48 subunit)’s version of AKB48’s Iiwake Maybe. Its official Filipino title is “Palusot Ko’y Maybe” which means “ My excuse is (saying) Maybe.” The music video was released just last February 23, 2019 making it the newest video among the three shown for this episode.

I hope the owner of this channel will explain to those people (who react to those music videos) that Philippines already had that styles of singing and already had an underground rappers for SO MANY YEARS, we (filipino) have a lot of popular rappers and talented singers. I'm a bit hurt cause they think Filipinos don't have their OWN music styles. Well for the 3rd mv IT IS actually similar to the Korean and Japanese girl group cause MNL48 was influenced by AKB48. At some point I agree to their comments regarding to MNL48, me as well can't see the FILIPINO type of song to their musics and the way they sang it looks like they trying to be similar to the Japanese songs. When you're listening to their songs you can't hear a Filipino language (even though they singing in Tagalog) every foreigner who listened to their musics actually wondering if they really singing in Tagalog cause it sounds like a Japanese song. Maybe their fans can't understand what I'm really trying to say and maybe throw some bad comments to me, I guess you should watch Fumiya's reaction to MNL48 on his YT channel because we have the same opinion and he's also a japanese so you might understand what I really want to point out.

Exactly. We've always had our own style.

Well aside from the rappers, they do know that we have that type of singing. It's what we're most stereotyped for in South Korea. What they were trying to say is how it seems like the Philippines "true /musical/ colors" haven't really shown through based on the three MVs presented. People may argue that the "true" sound of Filipino music is that of the 2000s style OPM. Acoustics, ballads, and birits. However, you can't deny that those songs are somehow influenced by the west. @@elsplanet I understand that and I think you should understand my opinion as well. Maybe next time you should put some clarification to what they're saying since most of your subscribers (including me) cannot understand korean language. I watched all of those reaction videos and you always provide an explanation everytime after they gave their opinions, I guess that's what you missed to do this time. And you said you're not trying to make my comment looks bad I guess, well as I read your explanation and you put "hahaha as always ..." maybe it's nothing for you but it looks negative and unprofessional for me. Well that's what I felt when I read that. Still looking forward to your upcoming videos.😊
@elsplanet5 жыл бұрын
@@senju6486 OMG!!! So sorry for the misunderstanding but the "as always" was meant to sound like "as always... remember that el's planet is your planet as well... etc" not "You'll see i'm right as always" huhuhu they were two separate ideas which were written horribly. I should've re-read my message 'cause that's really not what I meant by it 100%! 😔I took it out na to avoid the confusion. I love you guys and wouldn't want to hurt a single one of you at all. I'm really sorry Alex! I really didn't mean it that way. Because of this, you're name'll be etched in my mind whenever I say "as always." 😅 I hope we're all good! And yes! we did explain everything to them in the outtakes after they watched the MV. 😊
@jhay_el465 жыл бұрын
El's Planet already anwered the 1st part so I'll answer the 2nd coz it's longer, but El is right. MNL48 aren't just influence by AKB48 but they are "under" AKB48, they're franchise that's why they call themselves "Official Sister Group". Like any other franchises they are bound by contract so their freedom is limited, they're only allowed to sing translated AKB48 song and they even not allowed to change the arrangement. And any change should be approved by AKB48 Mgt.. Anyway their J-Style singing is only present on their 2nd Single Pag-ibig Fortune Cookie w/c include Palusot Ko'y Maybe & First Rabbit, and their 1st Single Aitakatta is more Filipino especially the B-Side Umiindak na Saya(you should listen to it kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5eYq6p9qreaa80 ). I really like Umiindak na Saya because (imo) it really sounds like 90s Filipino Song both on instruments & singing. (speaking of distinct Filipino sound)

Yes, this is new in mainstream Philippines music industry. They are introducing the idol concept in the Philippines, the vibes is somehow Japanese because they are sister group of a Japanese girl group AKB48, their genre is JPOP-PPOP. We can see Japanese and Korean vibes maybe because idol culture started from them, and the influence is really undeniable.

i think the reason why they weren't "as" impressed with mnl48 is because being the koreans that they are of course they're so used to seeing and hearing idols! and korean idols are way different from japanese idols or japanese based/style idols which mnl48 incorporates to. korean idols are polished and perfect while japanese idols aren't and are expected to get polished and to grow with fans as they go along their idol journey. that's the concept of mnl48. they're still improving everyday! it's really hard for them to adjust to that idea or aren't knowledgeable about that because they're the center of kpop idol industry after all. the philippines is already having a hard time grasping the basic concept of japanese idols, what more the country with the most famous idols in the world? another thing is about morisette amon's song sounding "korean": i have to disagree because the song really reminds me of old school opm like the ones regine velasquez would sing back in the day. i guess it's just a coincidence that they sound similar? i don't know 🤷🏽♀️ anyway, thank you el and your team for this! i've been checking every now and then for the upload! now it's here and i can't be happier! also, i'm sad that you didn't do the introductions/explanations but i guess it's hard because of the language barrier! (you already did so much huhu) and only if i could speak korean i would help subbing!
@Xynic485 жыл бұрын
Jpop itself is not mainstream so it's understandable. Korea also has a different idol concept compared to japan so even jpop idol groups are not popular in korea. It was quite obvious because none of them were familiar with 48g or akb48. It was only after produce48 that some koreans showed interest in jpop idol groups because the trainees are korean and girls from akb48/sister groups.

We try to show them MVs that we know have the potential to be liked by the people reacting. No offense, but the quality of the songs and MVs are still a far cry from what we've been showing them lately. 😔The fact that they mentioned that MNL48 wasn't synchronized when for those who've been watching them for a while thought that it was already a big improvement just shows the level they're looking for in an idol girl group. I do believe that UGG can improve though... I know they're under Viva so they could look at their "seniors" for inspiration. It would be great if they hired the producers of Sarah Geronimo's Tala or maybe her producer for Misteryo for an album. Then hire the director for Yassi Pressman's Lala MV to direct theirs. They should also find a really good choreographer as well. Viva used to have a group called "Sugar n' Spice." They actually had a catchy enough song and an okay MV... I don't know where they went, and the MV isn't on KZbin anymore, but they really had something. Best wishes to UGG/P-pop Generation... Btw... the name P-pop Generation seems a bit off imo 😖it makes the average consumer think that it's a Filipino girl group trying to push the Filipino version of K-pop (I know that it's not the case) by naming themselves a mix of Girls' Generation and P-pop... It's just like the final name of the Boyband competition which Dara and Vice judged... BoybandPH. 🙃 Don't get me wrong hahaha not hating! Just giving out opinions 😊

I like how they compare it makes you feel good that you've done it. Most people use comparison to make u feel disappointed in what you've done :/

MNL48 is the PH franchise for AKB48, which--you guessed it--is a JP girl group. AKB48 started with 48 but over the years, they've got lots of "generations" and now AKB48 has over hundreds of female talents under its umbrella. They're apparently planning the same for MNL48.

13:54... So true. I feel the same way. But if you want to hear more OPM try listening to folk bands ;) Filipino here.
@Xynic485 жыл бұрын
Nah they dont need to listen to folk songs. We dont need to prove anything to them. Korean music has many outside influence as well. It's hypocritical to say our music is "similar to western and korean music."
@MsAZYou5 жыл бұрын
Well the 3rd was only a ph version of the original song from Akb48... ballad songs is also common in all countries... korea is not the only country singing hip hop songs. And its not limited to 1 country only. Well its natural they compare these songs to their own countrys songs but just remember, music genre is not limited to your country.

MNL48 are sister group for AKB48 just like IZONE for Korea that came from Produce48
@ayeishagee72495 жыл бұрын
As for me, the thing that could differentiate OPM from western or foreign music would be the instrumentation used in the songs especially that of Filipino ballad songs. I can't pinpoint what is it but I haven't heard it in a Korean ballad song or in an American love song somehow. Just sharing. ✌️
