I lived in Busan, South Korea for 4 years for my PhD. The Elderly had no issues with Indians but the youngsters think Indians are poor and bad people. I used to live there during the Nirbhaya case was going on and this had an adverse effect due to media manipulation.

I don’t believe these guys or any Korean for that matter. Recently I stumbled upon a Korean guy’s travel vlogs (India series) and went through some of the comments on his videos, trust me, I was filled with anger. They had such bad and negative stuff to say about India. I haven’t seen such brazen lack of awareness and hate. An Indian student had an indecent experience in Korea and she has made a video about it. Even Korea is not 100% safe. But their media and people never highlight or hype such incidents.

That's not quite accurate. In India itself, there are many poor people. And yes, while they are hard-working in their "small jobs," often in rags and tattered clothing, that is all filmed by the video loggers that visit there and put these vids up on YT and other social media platforms. Many people are living at or near poverty levels there. Over-population has a lot to do with this, and the govt. should have taken steps to deal with it a long time ago (like China did with their population for instance). Also, while filming, the video loggers capture the background and infrastructure of many Indian neighborhoods, and in many cases, there is garbage and trash all over the place. This obviously creates a very negative impression in the minds of outsiders.

Just for your knowledge India is vast and diverse, there are no other country like India. Each & every state is like a different country with different languages (oral, written) even sometime culture too. korea is as small as 1 state of India. The truth is some Koreans (generally the younger gen) DO like the U.S., Europe and the white / western world so to speak, but not so much the older gen, because they think that the younger gen's admiration of western culture is eroding their own culture. In regard to India, Koreans are starting to get that some Indians / South Asians do have money, but overall their impression of those nations is that it is generally a poor region of the world, and so naturally they will tend to look down on it, and the same can be said for various other south-east Asian nations too. In regard to China and Japan however, which are developed nations like Korea itself, they have respect for these countries, but they also have a good deal of political history with them that may cause some resentment. They basically see those nations as their rivals. Other than that, Koreans do favor white / fair skin when it comes to appearances of individuals, but I think that's generally a UNIVERSAL preference anyway (sorry, people of duskier skin tones... but it is what it is 🤷🏻‍♂).

I also lived in korea for 3 years , in beginning people hesitate to talk to me, it took a lot of time and efforts for me to make friends because I was also hesitant. But believe me all Koreans are not like that, our language & culture is a barrier , people in korea has a different culture, they are not open-minded towards foreigners because they never get the chance to become familiar with other cultures. Because of k-pop & kdramas popularity, foreigners started taking interest in korean culture & society and started noticing & visiting korea. So i would say something as a korean,,, of course..! You might sometimes get a negative aspect from korean people. Reason 1. It is certain that not every koreans went overseas and talked or lived or experienced the new culture. And also, we keep our boundaries ( ex. Koreans saying hi to another korean strangers is versy strange, weird and uncomfortable since they don't know them. So for those who are openminded koreans will going to greet you, but some koreans that are not used to other culture will try to not close to you, especially seniors. Probably language barrier is the biggest one and the second is the mindset. So if you had the experience of meeting korean racist, then you call out for help, or call the police i would say. Because there is no reason to be justified of what they've done to you. 2nd one is, korean have a big individualism if you don't know the korean person. To be honest, mostly korean will not have a lot of close indian friends or Palestinians, asian in general friends. Like i said because they've never been out of their country. So i would say be aware of the korean racists and also protect yourself. But i assure you that there are more good koreans there. Usually there are some areas that there are a lot of foreigners livin. If you live or stay or hang out in those areas, there will be nooo problem at all. Everybody will protect and help you out. I know that you guys who wants to visit korea have to go through this and i am very feeling sorry about it. But i know the feeling since i have felt the same way after i went to western countries. CONCLUSION: There will be always racists around you wherever you go. So pick the place that has less racists and you will have your good time there. If you had something rude from them, speak out. But there is thing that i hope everybody know.. is if we generalize other countries people ( koreans are racists!), we are same as them, only in this situation, but every connection globally. We should not generalize people because we know how media picks 1 negative news only out of other 100 positive news anywhere because negativity sells.
