I'm Korean and I know AOORA because I'm interested in idols, and he was a member of a K-POP group called Double A 10 years ago (probably 2nd or 3rd generation). There was a talented dancer named Woosang in Double A. He would have been a back dancer or dance teacher for many K-POP artists. However, because there are so many boy bands in Korea and Double A was not a very famous group, They weren't very popular, So most Koreans, especially the younger generation, probably don't know about Double A and AOORA.

AOORA has made his fanbase in India, not Korea that's why only some people know him there and the ones who know him there are the ones who might have listened to his band in 2011-15. He might have been famous during that time. Otherwise, his Solo singing is based in India. Most of the people you asked were younger and must have not known about him because they listen to popular music nowadays.

Like some people commented, his idol group disbanded and he moved on as a solo artist/KZbin creator. You know very well how competitive the entertainment industry in SK, and you can’t expect him to compete against artists/groups from big companies. He gained some fame back then and he still has some fans today. That makes him famous if he’s retained loyal audience. Just because people on the street don’t recognise him doesn’t invalidate his status. His group was popular in Latin countries as well, and some of older Koop fans would probably recognise him.

Probably an unpopular opinion but IMO you did this video with ill intent. Your comments are rude tbh, like you said he’s not famous so the show should deduct his fees, he’s fake when one Korean seems like he’s starting to remember Aoora, or you’re being disingenuous in introducing Aoora, like maybe you should’ve also mentioned DoubleA. Some of their songs are really popular overseas too. Let’s be real, Aoora debuted in 2011 and his group disbanded already. He might not be as renowned as some idols or singers today, but you shouldn’t downplay his fame either. He only has a few songs as a solo singer and not really advertised very well. Yet, he still has a small fan base, definitely more than some random KZbinr like you.
