THANK YOU for mentioning/covering the drum pads in this video. It might be a minor detail or not important to people that program drum patterns just based on step sequencing, but knowing the drums are controlled with click buttons and not drum pads with velocity just saved me $500 of disappointment, since I was hoping this one included the ability to perform patterns with live layers of drumming on them. Appreciate that detail you included!

2 Questions 1. transient sample - is that available to the sample pool so we can use out own or is it locked to only korg presets? 2. will the unit power via usb or does it require the korg PSU ?

I have to ask, though, for sample based music is this really a good option? It feels like MPCs and Ableton Live (among others) have far more refined workflows for working with drum samples. Or is it easier to pull samples in here than I’m realizing?

You’re 100% right. We’re talking about two completely different product categories. This is a drum machine that plays one shot samples, preferably drums. An MPC or a another proper groovebox is way better if you want to produce whole tracks.

Mmmm, very fair. Though for $600… Well, to be fair, if I didn’t already have a drum machine that I like this may be more tempting. I have a TR-8 (no s) and in my mind it’s only shortcoming is that I can’t use samples for toms/cymbals which this Korg conveniently fixes. Plus it is $200 cheaper than a TR-8s, which was the more obvious upgrade path for me. If I think of this as a competitor for a TR-8s, it starts to make more sense… And I do love my minilogue XD so…. maybe maybe. I’ll have to keep this one in mind I’m thinking.

Nice and short, detailed explanation, Great Video 🙃😉liked and subscribed ...would like to see a real "Banger" potential like for Techno. I m very very disapointed from !!!Korg!!!. A synthsized Kick drum option like Nano engine unit is not available. That can boost the Potential for Techno music...imagine the search for the right Kick with 32 MB storage 😮‍💨 I hope that some is out there can reach out to Korg. Once Kick engine is updates i bye one.🤩 Performance is and should be a big factor. I Like Drumlogue very much so far expect the Kick desighn possibility. Great Product. Hope update is comming soon.

Thats a valid point and the sample memory is definitely an issue even though some of the kick samples that it comes with are pretty solid. I guess someone (or korg themselves) could release a kick drum synth as a "user" synth in the future... That could at least be something ;)

Check out Behringers Hirotribe which is in currently in development - it’s designed by the former Korg engineer that created the Monotribe. He improved on the Monotribe and actually adding functionality in a smaller enclosure. Psyched for its arrival 💯

with the usb input it might be possible in a future rom upgrade to then use that for expanding with pads midi controllers, sd card reader, like the akai can do but I think this is cooler than the mpc as a drum machine if not a standalone daw like the mpc one.

Thanks for the video, I love Korg and have been looking for a hardware drum machine that's smaller form factor but studio based. My only downside on this is no cv control, getting into some modular effect and route chaining and would have been nice to see some cv or even better s wave (hz/octive) patch points for some semi modular integration with the MS-20 Mini and other korg s wave devices.

As an affordable drum machine its absolutely superb and know doubt will be popuar amongst amateur and proffesional musicians alike. Let us not forget that Korg has been major player in Electronic music for fifty years . This video was to show the capabilities of the machine , not to get into a my drummachines better than yours argument. Great vid greater machine.

I have one on preorder. When reading information on Korgs website, the SDK with the ability to program your own FXs and synths got me very excited. It must be noted that in order to create you own synths sounds , you will need to understand programming in C/C++. Luckily for me, I write software in C and C++.

Thank you for the review. It reminds me of the old electribe er1 and doesn't seem to offer anything that new with regard the 'sound'. I also think it's way overpriced for what it is and Korg will find it hard to compete in this price bracket. No audio over USB is a massive shame too. As soon as the price drops (and I don't believe it'll be long) then it will be better value. Knock £/$129 off and I may consider it.

Seeing these reviews I'm getting the impression you reviewers personally enjoy this machine. Do you agree? Mojo is an important thing for me. I have the MPC One but the plugins and sample packs don't inspire me - I need external gear that has mojo to get me started and the MPC's mojo kicks in once I start chopping my own samples.

Yeah, I enjoy this one quite a bit! It’s mostly “just” a drum machine though and I wouldn’t compare it to a proper groovebox or a sampler. This Drumlogue is inspiring and fun to work with, I’d say that it definitely has a mojo :)

For anyone reading this Think twice before you buy the newer -crap- that doesn't even come close to what has already been made. If you save up the 150 extra you can have the elektron rytm mk1 for example that will give you a 512 step sequencer, way better sounds, at least 1000 samples (maybe more never experienced my memory being full) and any sound you can imagine. The new stuff all looks good but won't magically make your music any better. It's all in the perspective and the person who holds the machine and the demo they create. Not saying it's total crap but tbh I've seen and have used so many different drumcomputer/samplers and when I see this I can only say: It looks good but the specs and possibilities are very, very sad for this pricetag and day and age. This is not revolutionary or even better than what's already there. IMO there hasn't been any beter drumcomputer/groovebox the past 3-4 years that has come out that wasn't already there.. I'm maybe whining right now but can't imagine why someone would pay this for that when theres stuff like elektron, jomox, the old elektron electribes etc out there for almost the exact same price but will give you everything you will ever need and more.
