Dark, but still capable of creamy leads & pads. Perfect for post-punk (e.g. British band, "The Killing Joke"), and Goth/Darkwave!

I have owned one for three years and sold it recently for saving money to get a VA. Sometimes I repent... With 32 years, It is a limited synth actually, but very pleasant to hear, with great analog filters and with a very particular and lovely vintage analog/digital sounding.

Thank you! If you want, check out my new video where I show patches for the FB-7999 VST. It's an emulation of the DW8000 that comes extremely close soundwise. And it's free.

Very nice demo, some sounds that are familiar and some I don't remember (I've had my DW8000 since the 80s). Many thanks for sharing your patches, there's a lot of practical stuff to get someone started.

I started rebuilding the bank of 64 patches in my synth earlier this year, I'll link what I have below. I'll be sharing on my own channel once I get a good demo. I auditioned six banks of Korg patches plus a bunch of ones posted online. My only goal was to try to find the best and most practical sounds. I have them basically organized keyboards, organ, bass/misc, winds/strings, guitar/misc, pads, leads, more leads/sfx. Saved as a 48khz wave file, so if you only have 44.1khz you would need to pitch correct in Audacity. Here's the link along with a chart of my patch names. Please excuse the grandiose "Superbank" name www.dropbox.com/sh/oq5kzx989kfbrqs/AAAxYIBM7w5hGTZIAopct1YGa?dl=0

That thing looks brand new man! :-O I found one in Germany with a dead battery. Since it did not work the dude let it go for 70 euro. I had to replace the power cord and put some work in battery replacement and sound loading but it was worth the trouble. I love that synth. The organs sound pretty cool. Pads too. And it's pretty simple to edit. Sure knobs would have been better. Except from one scratch it is as good as new.

@1:17 i think it sprang a leak! One thing, a lot of the patches have echo/reverb effects. I'm dialing that down a lot on the patches in my DW8000, I'll often leave a touch of reverb like about "4" and it gives a little depth to the sound. So just because there's a lot of delay in the demos, don't forget you can always adjust the settings to your personal tastes. Btw, the lead at 3:38 is really sweet.
@roboticrealm7 жыл бұрын
Sure. I really like the delay on this unit though. It's a quite odd delay and when taking it to extremes it makes it part of the sound, and I quite like that. You can get some really nice dreamy textures out of this synth that doesn't sound like anything else alot due to that delay.
@thebreathalyzer6 жыл бұрын
Agree 100% though, I consider the built in effects an essential component on any of the instruments that included them.

Awesome demo. You earned a new subscriber :D......A question....Is the delay you're using external or built in? I'm considering buying a DW-8000, and I hope the built-in delay is capable of these lush stereo effects like your demo, without buying external effects. Thank you for the beautiful demo
@roboticrealm5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, the delay is built-in.

Great patches, lots of variety. DW-8000 is very versatile. How did you create the patch at 5:55 to have that "sequenced" pattern within it? Sounds like a square wave LFO on filter or amp?
@chancemeeting28498 жыл бұрын
Likely sawtooth LFO to filter cutoff and maybe to amplitude as well

sawtooth down on the cutoff, with high-ish resonance ? I think, oh and delay if it has to be mentioned
@mgalligano7 жыл бұрын
by the way, are you using additional FX? or is it just the internal DW8000 delay?
@roboticrealm7 жыл бұрын
It's just the internal FX.

roboticrealm I own this, the dw6000, the poly61, a Roland Juno 60,106 and jx8p. if i could pick between the Jupiter 4, Jupiter 8 , korg polysix or the korg monopoly which would you recommend?
@maccagrabme8 жыл бұрын
I think you know the answer is going to be Jupiter 8 but think you are almost there with this and the rest of the kit you own.
@roboticrealm8 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The Jupiter 8 is far superior to all the others. Since I own a Polysix, Jupiter 4 and owned a MonoPoly (before selling it a year ago) they are great keyboards of course, but there's a reason the Jupiter 8 is way more expensive than the others.
@devicefactor22908 жыл бұрын
roboticrealm I was going to ask if you prefer the Jupiter 4 over the 8.i hear people swear the tonality of it sounds much sweeter to that of the 8

can these patches be read by ex-8000 rack version?

I don't know. I've never owned the ex-8000. Maybe you can search some forums to find the answer.

yes the ex-8000 is exactly the same as the DW minus the keyboard.

How do I load the patches in? I had only used the cassette option in the past.
@roboticrealm7 жыл бұрын
You just take your two midi cables and connect your synth to your USB to Midi interface (like the M-Audio Midisport 2x2 for example m-audio.com/products/view/midisport-2x2-anniversary-edition ) that's connected to your computer. You then use MidiOx or SendSX to send the sysex file with the patches to your DW-8000.
@8bitwidgets6 жыл бұрын
I used a program (not cheap but worth it if you have more than one vintage synth) called MIDI Quest. that is great not just for dumping but managing all of your patches. you can make libraries of sounds (more than 64) that you could pull together a custom list and then dump that.. or just push single patches to particular slots in your current memory. it's really nice. There are some other programs out there though that can do the trick to for less money, I just have owned a lot of vintage synths and it was nice to have a single program that supported all of them. also there is a feature caled "patch zone" that has hundreds and with some synths (i'm looking at you DX-7) that have thousands of patches that you can preview and grab if you like. I'm not affiliated with the company, just a fan of the product. :) .

@roboticrealm6 жыл бұрын
I know Dropbox can be a bit weird sometimes in how it presents files. Instead of clicking on the folder icon, go to the upper right of the screen and I think you should see a box that says download (or something similar, my dropbox is in swedish so..) and there you choose Direct download (from the little menu with two options - the other option being "Save to my dropbox" or something like that).
@THEBEATPOETS16 жыл бұрын
@@roboticrealm Thank you, I managed to download now. can you advise how to transfer them to my Korg via SysEx librarian software many thanks
@roboticrealm6 жыл бұрын
Check your DW8000 manual. If you don't have a manual you can find one online. I have never used Sysex Librarian since it's only for Mac, and I use a PC (I'm using MidiOX and SendSX), so I can't help you with that.

Is it true that the arpeggio and sound of "I want it all" by Queen (in the mid section bridge "I'm a man with a one track mind ...") is from the Korg DW-8000?
@roboticrealm6 жыл бұрын
Really? I had no idea about that. The sounds on that song are excellent, but could they really be from this cheap synth? I mean Queen used Jupiter 8 for Radio Gaga, so I wouldn't have thought they would use something like a DW8000, but who knows...Where did you get this information, by the way?
@john-zwaan6 жыл бұрын
I asked in a keyboard forum. Because I am also looking for the sound and arpeggio.I wouldn't know for sure, asking you about it. Hoping you might know.
@EvilDragon6665 жыл бұрын
@@john-zwaan Not sure if it was a DW8000. It's definitely not a Jupiter 8 and definitely not an Oberheim making those sounds. There's something digital about them, the "brassy" sound is actually not like a synth brass but it has a "chiff" timbre in it, which leads me to believe it's a sample-based sound, or at least analog synth layered with something digital from that time. Could be a Korg M1 on SOME of the sounds used in I Want It All - it was released in 1988, which is just about in time for The Miracle. M1 was also heavily featured in the following album, The Innuendo. Here's the isolated recording of just vocals and synth: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZq8hoaVq5p2jM0 At the end of the song there is a nice PWM sound, that's definitely not M1 doing it, and not DW8000 either.
@derekbaker32795 жыл бұрын
@@EvilDragon666 Could it have been the "Sequential Circuits Prophet VS" (not the "Prophet 5") The "Prophet VS" had additional oscillators that were digital (not DCOs), plus the Prophet 5's VCOs & analogue filters..
@EvilDragon6665 жыл бұрын
@@derekbaker3279 Prophet VS you mean? No, I don't recall that ever being used by Queen. Plus, Prophet VS used single-cycle waveforms, this brassy timbre I hear doesn't sound like it is coming from a single-cycle waveform to me. I think they probably layered Korg M1 with some analog synth, but it's anyone's guess, really.
